Amazon Software Builder Experience has a mission to make Amazon the best place to be a software builder. It was established in 2022, bringing together existing and new teams with a focus on modernizing processes and tools. The organization is invested in deeply understanding the software builder experience in order to uncover areas of opportunity to improve it through tooling or process. As a UX Designer, you will collaborate with a team of brilliant designers, researchers, engineers, and product leaders to understand, envision, and deliver elegant solutions to customer problems across teams and products at ASBX.
Key job responsibilities
- Produce user flows, wireframes, prototypes, user interface specifications, and final graphics.
- Drive the development and communication of design guidelines, patterns, and libraries.
- Collaborate with UX Researchers to initiate and navigate testing processes and perform metrics analysis to inform design/UX optimization efforts.
- Help create the vision for developing, communicating, and implementing the user experience and associated UI framework and assets on a range of products; follow through with the processes and tactics to implement the vision.
- Partner with the technology team to ensure we leverage the scale offered by our platform without compromising on core experiential principles.
- Partner with others in the broader design community to develop and extend the experience across the array of offerings.
A day in the life
You'll meet with product and engineering stakeholders to discuss projects, review documents, and attend meetings with leadership to ensure design thinking is applied to our development processes. You'll produce designs and share them with the UX team for cross-organizational improvements on workflows that span across our suite of tools, and most likely will spend some time socializing with your stakeholders/peers over lunch.
About the team
Understanding that our org has the mandate to make software building awesome for all software builders, our close-knit team of designers and researchers are making that first we build more robust tools. More importantly, we're incorporating the best UX practices into how we build those tools such that they can be scaled out and applied by all Amazonians to make their output truly resonate with customers.
And even though we represent 50 products, the UX team meets twice-weekly to share ideas and work so we can cross-inform product recommendations for our entire portfolio.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Must have an online portfolio that demonstrates UX and user-centered design expertise through mockups, style guides, prototypes, and other artifacts.
- 4+ years of experience as a user experience designer, interaction designer, information architect, or similar role.
- 3+ years of experience designing for web-based, responsive, and accessible applications.
- Bachelor's degree in design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or 5+ years equivalent professional experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- A master’s degree in interaction design, human-computer interaction (HCI), or related UX degree.
- Experience working with design tools like Figma, Sketch, XD, or Illustrator.
- Web-based application development experience. Experience may include the ability to deliver production-ready artifacts or prototypes in HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. React-based application experience ideal.
- Experience working in a collaborative creative team.
- Experience working directly with developers for implementation of designs.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills including presentation skills.
- Experience with the current state of web technology and best practices.
- Experience with various standard design tools such as Figma, InVision, Sketch, or Framer.
- Demonstrated history of making data-driven decisions.
- Demonstrated proficiency in using and contributing to (atomic) design systems, both for consistency of brand/user experience and for efficiency in code.
- Demonstrated proficiency in best practices for web-based application information architecture, design patterns, usability principles, and techniques.
- Demonstrated history of performing user research or gathering quantitative customer data.
