The Computing Division at SLAC seeks a Senior Database Administrator to join our Platform team and provide comprehensive database administration, including Oracle and AWS relational database services. This senior technical staff position will be contributing immediately to designing and implementation of enterprise workload deployments. These efforts will be in conjunction with SLAC IT DevOps Engineers, Cyber Security, and other Platforms technical staff.

Reporting to the Manager of Platform Services, this senior DBA role will provide critical database administration and related services used for a variety of business and scientific support applications. This lead position will plan, support, and administer SLAC databases and related services with minimal guidance. The position will be accountable for data protection and integrity for database infrastructure supporting several ERP applications and other enterprise services.

Your specific responsibilities include:

  1. Provide technical leadership and management for the planning, support, and administration of databases and related software with minimal guidance. Take responsibility for data protection and integrity.
  2. Develop, implement, and lead critical projects with high consequences for success or failure.
  3. Evaluate technical strategies for projects, collect hardware and software requirements, and recommend solutions to complex database problems.
  4. Oversee the design, performance, optimization, backup and recovery strategies, and implementation of the database system.
  5. Introduce new tools and automation to augment and/or replace core functions.
  6. Propose and implement enhancements that will improve the most complex performance issues and/or reliability of the system.
  7. Demonstrate expert analysis to troubleshoot and provide resolutions of complex issues.
  8. Formulate and monitor policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management and security.
  9. Assign and oversee the work of other DBAs and act as a consultant and advisor to management and other technical support staff.
  10. Document and develop in-depth knowledge of existing IT architecture / infrastructure and technology portfolio.
  11. Develop and manage an infrastructure capacity plan.

  1. Bachelor's degree and ten years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  2. Expert level skills in all aspects of database administration.
  3. Extensive experience with developing strategic plans.

  6. Expert level grounding in core enterprise applications.
  7. Expert knowledge of systems platform.
  8. Expert technical knowledge of current systems software, protocols, and standards.
  9. Expert knowledge of programming languages and hands-on experience with application development tools.
  10. Expert knowledge of hardware and software evaluation principles and practice.
  11. Proven project planning and management experience, including ability to manage people.

The expected pay range for this position is $183,793 - $214,100 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
