Prototype Shop Machinist
NanoMosaic Inc., located inWaltham, Massachusetts, is focused on developing innovative photonics technology for biomedical discovery, Dx, CDx, and drug development markets.Our cutting-edge technology enables new frontiers of medical research for ultrahigh-sensitivity detection of single molecules in low volume liquid biopsy samples.
We are looking for a Prototype Shop Machinist to run our shop operations, create parts, components, fixtures, tooling, and other machined or 3D printed components. Machinists must be able to take conceptual ideas all the way through final assembly utilizing the proper and appropriate equipment.
Responsibilities:

  • Able to interpret shop drawings and convert to physical components.
  • Extensive knowledge of manual and CNC based machining practice such as best tooling choice and feeds and speeds.
  • Measuring and marking setup and fixturing of materials and equipment.
  • Manage safe operation of all equipment in prototype shop area.
  • Inspection of in-process and finished parts for flaws and defects per shop drawings
  • Ability to concisely communicate manufacturability of parts to design teams during design process and notification of any issues that arise during manufacturing.
  • Maintaining equipment located throughout the machine shop.
  • Supervise and train shop users along with creating best practice guidelines
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements/qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED. Bachelors or Associates in related fields preferred.
  • 5 or more years' experience in a additive or traditional shop setting
  • Adept with CNC equipment and CAM software.
  • Ability to design simple 3-dimensional components in CAD and realize them with 3d printing or machining a plus
  • Knowledge and proficiency in operating grinders, lathes, and milling machines, sheet metal equipment, and hydraulic press.
  • Adept in setup and reading vernier calipers, dial indicators, drop gauges, micrometers, go-no go, and bore gauges. Problem-solving skills to troubleshoot issues that arise during the manufacturing process.
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations to reduce the risk of workplace accidents.
  • Must be willing to wear the required personal protective equipment as required.
  • Close attention to detail required.
Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 to 75 pounds at a time.
