All positions at the public education department are based in Santa Fe, however some may operate through our Albuquerque office based on home address and space availability.

Why does the job exist?
This position was written into the SAMHSA Project Aware grant that PED received August 27, 2021. This position will coordinate the implementation of this grant. The purpose of this position is to plan, direct, coordinate, implement and provide oversight for the New Mexico Project Aware grant within the Safe and Healthy Schools Bureau.
How does it get done?
The incumbent will work with the Children¿s Mental Health Authority CYFD Project Co-Coordinator on collaborating with each LEA to ensure the objectives of the grant are implemented in order to reach proposed goals. The PED Project Coordinator will be responsible for the day-to-day fiscal, programmatic and administrative oversight of the grant, including, but not limited to, project implementation, quality assurance, contracts, budgets, financial decisions regarding the grant, and collaboration with state-level and community partners. The incumbent will be responsible for coordinating all grant-related activities with the three Local Education Agency (LEA) Managers hired for this grant. The coordinator will work with the LEA managers & school administrators to update Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) and include plans for sustainability.
Who are the customers?
New Mexico school aged children who may have behavioral health issues (including serious emotional disturbance (SED) or serious mental illness (SMI)), and their families, priority LEAs, and the NMPED Cabinet Secretary.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be self-directed and works well independently, works well with diverse and varied constituents, is well organized and has a strong history of meeting deadlines and reporting requirements, understands the mental health and substance abuse needs of school aged students, and has experience working with schools and communities. The experience and ability to provide programmatic and fiscal oversight of contracts, to train adults, and to exhibit strong, consistent communication skills and technical assistance are essential for this position. Fiscal accountability and grant writing and reporting are also essential.
Minimum Qualification
Bachelor's degree in Education, Public Administration or Business Administration and five (5) years of experience as a teacher and/or program administrator. Substitutions apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico's Driver's License.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office setting with exposure to Visual/Video Display Terminal (VDT) and extensive personal computer and phone usage. Some sitting, standing, bending and reaching may be required. Some occasional travel is required for meetings and conferences.
