The Position
Contra Costa County is seeking talented and qualified individuals to fill seventeen (17) Social Worker vacancies in the Employment and Human Services Department.

What you will typically be responsible for:
  • Completing needs assessments within necessary time limits
  • Identifying barriers and referring appropriate resources to clients that promote and improve their health, wellness and safety
  • Managing a caseload and addressing changes and needs of recipients
  • Conducting home visits
  • Accurate completion of mandatory forms notices
  • Reading, interpreting, and applying rules and regulations appropriately
  • Performing liaison work to assist clients with resolutions regarding other agencies and providing necessary supportive services

Minimum Qualifications
License Required: Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operator's License will be accepted during the application process.
Education: Successful completion of at least 60 semester units or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university which must have included 9 semester units or 12 quarter units in psychology, social work, child development, human development, sociology, social welfare, gerontology, behavioral health or a closely related field.
Experience: Two (2) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) social casework or case management experience working in a recognized public or non-profit social services, health, or human services agency.
Selection Process
  1. Application Filing: All applicants must apply on-line at and submit the information as indicated on the job announcement by the final filing date.
  2. Application Evaluation: Depending on the number of applications received, an Application Evaluation Board may be convened to evaluate and select the best-qualified candidates for invitation to the next phase of the examination.
  3. Written Examination: May include multiple-choice questions, writing proficiency test, and scenario based competency/behavioral questions. Test items may consist of the following assessment categories: Assessment, Interpersonal, Interpreting Policies and Procedure, Investigative, Psycho-Social, and Written Communication. (Weighted 100%). The assessment will be administered remotely using a computer or mobile device such as a tablet or smartphone. You will need access to a reliable internet connection to take part the assessment.

DISASTER SERVICE WORKER
All Contra Costa County employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law. Employment with the County requires the affirmation of a loyalty oath to this effect. Employees are required to complete all Disaster Service Worker-related training as assigned, and to return to work as ordered in the event of an emergency.
