Join us At the Forefront, at UChicago Medicine , as a Phlebotomist in the Pediatric Cancer Center.

In this role as a Vascular Access/Phlebotomy Technician , you will be responsible for drawing blood from inpatients & potential pediatric research participants as needed on patients in various locations of Comer under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification and generation of specimen collection labels.

Essential Job Functions

  • Performs venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures.
  • Properly packages specimens for delivery through pneumatic tube system.
  • Stocks blood drawing carts and keeps cart and area clean, safe, and sterile.
  • Use of handheld system to identify patients, indicate specimen collection status, and generate specimen collection labels.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must have current CPR training recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision.
  • Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.
  • BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Qualification would include one of the following:
    • N.A with phlebotomy certification.
    • A. with phlebotomy certification.
    • IV insertion and IV certification preferred.
    • IV access with Ultrasound trained preferred.
    • EMT-B.
    • EMT-P.
