Join us At the Forefront, at UChicago Medicine , as a Phlebotomist in the Pediatric Cancer Center.
In this role as a Vascular Access/Phlebotomy Technician , you will be responsible for drawing blood from inpatients & potential pediatric research participants as needed on patients in various locations of Comer under minimal supervision. Includes patient and order verification and generation of specimen collection labels.
Essential Job Functions
- Performs venipuncture and skin punctures with expertise and in a customer service oriented fashion, adhering to all established policies and procedures.
- Properly packages specimens for delivery through pneumatic tube system.
- Stocks blood drawing carts and keeps cart and area clean, safe, and sterile.
- Use of handheld system to identify patients, indicate specimen collection status, and generate specimen collection labels.
- Performs other duties assigned.
Qualifications
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Must have current CPR training recognized by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions and perform a variety of patient assistance without direct supervision.
- Ability to interact effectively with patients, clinical staff, and the general public.
- BLS Certification through the American Heart Association.
- Qualification would include one of the following:
- N.A with phlebotomy certification.
- A. with phlebotomy certification.
- IV insertion and IV certification preferred.
- IV access with Ultrasound trained preferred.
- EMT-B.
- EMT-P.

- Job Type/FTE: Full-time (1.0FTE).
- Shift: Night shift - 8 hours.
- Unit/Department: Pediatric Cancer Center.
- CBA Code: Non-Union.
