Southwest Behavioral & Health Services is hiring a Chief Medical Officer. In this position, you will oversee developing, implementing and monitoring medical management, utilization management, and quality improvement programs, as well as enforcing SBH policies and procedures.
This position will be working at our Administration building in Phoenix.
About the Position
The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) provides medical leadership at SBH. This includes managing clinical integration initiatives, and fostering relationships between medical providers, administrative departments, program vice presidents and program directors. Other important functions include implementing value and quality improvement programs within SBH facilities and within contracted service lines. This includes developing, implementing and monitoring medical management, utilization management, and quality improvement programs, as well as enforcing SBH policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
- Develop and sustain a culture of high performance and strong leadership across the organization.
- Provide oversight of Medication Assisted Treatment, including supervision of Nurse Practitioners working in Medication Assisted Treatment clinics.
- Supervise the clinical care of Psychiatrists, Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants employed by, or contracted with SBH.
- Monitor clinical/medical care and provide feedback to medical staff regarding the medical necessity and appropriateness of their therapeutic interventions.
- Oversee the implementation of quality improvement efforts for SBH prescribers, with the goal of improving clinical performance and maintaining compliance with CARF, HIPAA, and other accreditation standards.
- Improve customer experience and increase access by leading efforts such as Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), Commitment to Service, Patient Satisfaction, and high-quality medical staff services.
- Audit the medical records of behavioral health medical practitioners as a part of ongoing quality assurance efforts.
- Development of Policies and Procedures related to patient care and clinical processes. Collaborate with other members of the Executive Team on other policies or practices.
- When necessary, review and sign Certificates of Need, Recertifications of Need, or other legal or administrative documents.
- Provide direct patient care in situations where immediate coverage is clinically appropriate, up to 15% of agreed upon work schedule.
- Collaborate with integrated healthcare medical providers.
- Promote a client-centered, healing environment.
- Work with other leaders to assess and improve the professional practice of independent, contracted, and employed medical providers.
- Participate in the recruiting, interviewing, training, supervising, evaluating, and credentialing of medical and administrative personnel.
- Oversee all medical aspects of our behavioral health programs, including Children's Services, Adult Services, Methadone Treatment, Inpatient Care, Outpatient Programs, Community-Based Services, and Residential/Community Living Services. Ensure adherence to best practices, evidence-based guidelines, and regulatory requirements.
- Doctorate Degree in Medicine or Osteopathy (MD or DO).
- Board Certified/Eligible in Psychiatry.
- Must be eligible for or hold a current AZ State license to practice medicine.
- Must be eligible to be credentialed/privileged and in good standing.
- Five plus years of clinical experience in the practice of medicine.
- Three plus years of medical staff leadership experience and/or managed care environment.
