Title: Moulder Operator/Grinder

Reports to: Rough Mill Supervisor

Job purpose:

Minimum requirements:

Minimum three years of experience on wood moulding machines is required. We hire candidates with excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Competencies include: Leadership, Problem Solving/Analysis, Results Driven, Communication Proficiency, Time Management and Technical Capacity.

The moulder operator position is responsible for set-up and production of millwork. This line of business is crucial to the company and a major output of Precision Wood Products. Experience on this machine and in the wood industry is an essential qualification.

Tasks

  • Set up, program, and operate computer assisted or manual moulder machines.
  • Examine finished workpieces for quality: smoothness, depth-of-cut, or conformity to specifications. Verify dimensions, both visually and using calipers, templates, or samples.
  • Start machines, adjust controls, and make trial cuts to ensure that machinery is set-up and operating properly.
  • Monitor operation of machines during runs and make adjustments to correct problems and ensure conformance to specifications.
  • Examine raw material for defects and to ensure conformity to size and other specification standards.

Tools & Technology

Tools used in this occupation:

  • Moulding Machines — Conventional moulding machines
  • Grinder —Manual knife grinder for HSS and carbide
  • Ripsaw — Automated Gang Saw and Straight-line rip
  • Calipers —Digital calipers
  • Chop Saw — Upcut saw and 10-12” compound miter saw

Knowledge

  • Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Material Identification/Grade Identification — Knowledge of both softwood and hardwood identification and grade.

  • Operation Monitoring — Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Operation and Control — Controlling operations of equipment or systems using manual adjustments.
  • Quality Control Analysis — Conducting inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance.

  • Near Vision — The ability to see details at close range (within a few feet of the observer).

  • Control Precision — The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions.
  • Manual Dexterity — The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.

  • Lifting — The ability to lift up to 65 lbs multiple times throughout a 9-1/2 hour shift.

Education

These occupations require a high school diploma or equivalent. Some higher education preferred.

Job Training

Required experience:

  • Operating wood moulding machines and grinder: 3 years

Schedule: Monday through Friday – Day Shift; with the ability to work flexible hours or weekends if needed.
