Your opportunity



As the Global Controller, you'll be responsible for helping to lead, develop, and drive the global accounting and financial reporting activities of New Relic's 135 Relic strong accounting function. You'll be a key member of the leadership team developing and strengthening collaborative relationships with colleagues in business, FP&A, HR and Benefits, IT BA, Tax, Legal, IR, and Treasury. You'll also be a key member helping to identify and drive process improvement and digital transformation opportunities within the accounting function.

Being able to ensure proper accounting treatment and accurate financial results while also maintaining effective internal controls is critical to this role. As the Global Controller, you'll be a subject matter expert on existing and emerging accounting policies and principles.






What you'll do



  • Participate in the planning, direction, and coordination of all accounting and reporting operations, including but not limited to general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable tax, payroll, equity accounting, treasury and consolidation activities
  • Responsible for the month-end closing process, including account/variance analysis and reconciliation
  • Provide oversight with all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in regulatory reporting, including tax planning and compliance across various jurisdictions, both US and foreign tax filings
  • Partner with the FP&A team on the annual budget, monthly forecast, various expense analytics and other internal reporting activities
  • Ensure that financial statements are consistent with GAAP
  • Participate in the drafting and/or review of technical accounting positions and policy memos as necessary
  • Stay current on the latest FASB and SEC guidance
  • Help to coordinate annual financial statement audits with external auditors, both domestic and international
  • Participate in the development and maintenance of internal control documentation
  • Help drive the identification of inefficiencies and opportunities for process improvements, optimize the ERP and other accounting systems and tools, and help lead the implementation of best practices for all the accounting processes to scale the team
  • Partner with management team, FP&A, and business to provide advice on financial implications of business activities
  • Own resolution of accounting questions/issues including adoption of new accounting standards as necessary
  • Develop a culture of continuous improvement in the accounting function and support the culture domestically and internationally, providing assistance and direction as required to improve effectiveness and overall performance
  • Lead, retain, and develop a high performing accounting team and support their growth and professional development





This role requires



  • Bachelor of Science in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant credentials required
  • 10+ years of overall experience, previous experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area as a senior member of the accounting team
  • Expert level experience with NetSuite or equivalent ERP
  • Strong analytical and solid technical accounting skills, including ability to independently analyze transactions and contracts and document the related accounting analysis under GAAP
  • Strong leadership, excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with ability to work across many departments
  • Proven ability to manage, develop, and lead remote/distributed teams across different time zones
  • Experience working with an accounting organization of similar size
  • Experience in a SaaS business is preferred
