The historic Radisson Hotel Duluth-Harborview is now accepting resumes for a Director of Sales and Marketing. This is a full-time position that deals with the coordination of group hotel rooms, meetings, and special events at the hotel.

The qualified candidate must have a background in hotel sales, an outgoing personality, and be a team player in dealing and working with all department heads of the hotel. Responsibilities include dealing with sales of hotel rooms to groups and promoting the hotel and all of our outlets such as The Apostle Supper Club and The False Eye Doll lounge. Computer skills are a must.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Responsible for the short and long-term planning and day-to-day operations of the hotel Sales department.
  2. Recommend marketing, advertising, and sales plans and programs; manage within approved plans and budgets.
  3. Qualify prospective leads as to profitability.
  4. Approve function space allocation for group and catering bookings.
  5. Negotiate and close contracts with key accounts.
  6. Manage Human Resources in the department to attract, retain, and motivate associates.
  7. Implement company programs and manage the operations of the department in a manner consistent with hotel policies and procedures.
  8. Develop and enhance relationships with corporate, business, travel industry, community organizations, professional associations, and media.
  9. Survey, review, and analyze competition, market trends, customer needs, and comments to develop new plans and programs.
  10. Develop, recommend, implement, and manage the department’s annual budget, advertising, public relations, marketing, and sales plans.
  11. Train all members of the hotel staff on how to recognize and capitalize on all sales opportunities.
  12. Complete special projects and other responsibilities as assigned.
  13. Participate in task forces and committees as required.
  14. Conduct property tours and inventory sales collateral.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to complete each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed.

  • Excellent guest service skills required.
  • Requires advanced knowledge of the principles and practices within the sales/marketing/hospitality profession.
  • Requires decision-making within the standards of the position, which can impact more than one department.
  • Must possess highly developed communication skills to negotiate, convince, sell, and influence.
  • Must understand the positioning of the hotel and how it can meet the needs of guests.
  • Must be able to prepare revenue forecasts based on business booked-to-date.
  • Some travel may be required.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Four-year college degree or equivalent education/experience. Five years within the hotel sales discipline and department head position for at least two years.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: English is a must and other languages are a plus.
