The multidisciplinary team in Ambulatory Procedures Unit (APU) or Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC) specializes in and provides quality care for a broad range of surgical procedures. Procedure acuity is also broad and can include patients going home the same day to patients needing to stay inpatient for a recovery period. The patient population ranges from pediatric to geriatric. In APU and ASC strong relationships with the patients and their families are built through compassion, empathy and extensive teaching. The nursing approach is a team approach, and all entities work together to care for the patient in this area. This is a fast paced, dynamic unit.
