What We Need
As an IP Network Engineer at Bandwidth you will work on projects supporting and enhancing a highly resilient global network. You will work with network technologies from multiple vendors including, but not limited to, Cisco, Palo Alto, Ribbon, and Juniper to help Bandwidth continue to strengthen our network infrastructure with improved architectures, tooling, and automation. Our goal is to provide Bandwidth's customers unparalleled voice quality by implementing highly available network designs.
What You'll Do:
Troubleshoot network issues (route / switch / firewall / vpn), diagnose problems, and implement solutions to ensure network stability.
- Support the evaluation, development, and testing of tools to strengthen Bandwidth's global IP Network.
- Research, provide recommendations, and implement designs for both data center and WAN network architectures.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as software updates, hardware upgrades, and system checks.
- Work directly with internal and external customers to ensure needs are identified, understood, and met effectively.
- Participate in an on call schedule to be available for off hours network emergencies.
- Perform after hours maintenance as required for production changes.
What You'll Need:
- 7 years experience in IP networking, including experience in working with service provider grade network equipment such as:
- Cisco ASR
- Cisco Nexus
- Palo Alto
- Juniper MX
- Juniper SRX
- Applicants should have deep understanding and experience with some or all of the following: OSPF, BGP, VXLAN/EVPN, Spanning Tree, MPLS, and IPSEC.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills to diagnose and resolve network issues.
- Experience with Layers 1, 2, 3, and 4 of the OSI model, including hands on work in data center environments
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- The ability to function independently on tasks and project work.
- Comfortable operating in a linux environment.
- Certifications are nice, but not required.
- Development / Scripting experience in a language of your choice is a bonus.
- Knowledge of network security principles and best practices
- Bonus for experience working in a hybrid cloud environment.
- Experience in training and mentoring junior team members
