FUNCTIONAL DESCRIPTION OF UNIT:
The Executive Director of the Arts is part of an integrated team supporting the schools of the Rochester City School District. This role involves advising the Chief Academic Officer and providing leadership to promote student achievement.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and coordinate Arts-related curricula and programming for grades K-12.
- Provide leadership to schools and individual teachers to improve Arts educational programs.
- Develop curricular and instructional goals for the Department.
- Assist schools in developing professional learning plans.
- Provide professional development and guidance regarding instructional best practices.
- Work with cross-district committees on curriculum documents.
- Design intervention strategies for students experiencing academic difficulties.
- Facilitate learning opportunities for collaborative team structures.
- Participate in professional development to stay updated on best practices.
- Convene and facilitate an RCSD subject area council.
- Work with the Office of Parent Engagement to increase parent understanding of Art and Music.
- Unify diverse views into a cohesive vision for instruction.
- Maintain communication with professional councils on educational trends.
- Provide leadership regarding curriculum and instructional practices.
- Lead initiatives within the Division of Teaching and Learning.
- Apply expertise to address complex situations.
AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
- Meet with teachers and administrators regularly to ensure academic standards are met.
- Plan and supervise Art and Music educational programs.
- Collaborate on data-informed instructional support for struggling learners.
- Provide professional development tools for principals and staff.
- Assess school improvement plans to support key learning objectives.
- Support leadership teams in developing instructional plans.
- Develop and revise citywide assessments.
- Manage the departmental budget and resources.
- Implement department goals and objectives and perform other duties as assigned.
FUNCTIONAL TASKS OF THIS ROLE:
- Provide training workshops to enhance professional learning.
- Enhance administrators’ knowledge in building collaborative cultures.
- Implement and provide technical assistance for Art and Music programs.
- Lead initiatives for developing professional learning communities.
- Update the Art and Music Department website.
- Collaborate with various departments to integrate Art and Music.
- Coordinate opportunities for schools to understand their communities.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CERTIFICATION:
- 10 years of effective teaching, coaching, and leadership experience.
- New York State Teacher Certification in art or music.
- New York State Certification for School District Administrator (SDA) or School District Leader (SDL).
- Experience in curriculum creation and professional learning.
- Demonstrated leadership qualities and strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to integrate functions effectively with all management levels.
- Expertise in instructional models and financial management.
