Job Title: CAD Drafter

Division: Seattle – Hybrid

Pay (hourly or salary): Hourly

Reports to: Fire Alarm Engineering Supervisor

FLSA Status: Non- Exempt

Pay Range: $33-$35 hourly


Position Summary:

The Computer Assisted Designer is responsible for working with Fire Sales and Engineering departments to provide engineering and drafting of fire alarm and suppression systems, commensurate to the needs of the company.

About the Position:

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned as needed.

  • Works with Guardian Sales Representatives, Project Managers, and technical staff to interpret project specifications and drawings, determining system layout.
  • Designs and draws to a professional standard for accurate, neat, and error-free work as determined by the department manager.
  • Completes engineering requests in accordance with sound business practices and general corporate policies.
  • Reviews individual drawings to ensure completeness and accuracy of work performed.
  • Actively participates in personal and professional development and maintains knowledge of current and new technologies that the company offers.
  • Promotes a team environment and assists other designers and engineers with their projects when needed.

Key Competencies and Abilities:

  • Communicates well and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knowledge in current codes such as NFPA 72, IBC and the principles and practices of fire protection engineering.
  • Proficient knowledge of product lines and related parts used by the company (largely Siemens).
  • Understands and utilizes company drafting procedures.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • 5+ years of experience in the design of fire alarm systems.
  • Experience with Onyx Notifier or equivalent network fire alarm system design programs.


Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:

  • NICET II or III (highly preferred)


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of:

  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of MS Office Suite, particularly Word, Outlook, Excel.
  • Proficient knowledge of the use of AutoCAD for the purpose of engineering and application of fire alarm and suppression systems.
  • Experience using Bluebeam (preferred, not required)

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 20 pounds, and occasionally will lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Must be able to stand, walk, reach and bend for extended periods of time occasionally; Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus; Uses fingers, hands, arms when working with mouse, keyboard, monitors; possible use of headset while on calls.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to noise level from low to mid-range due to others speaking on phones; otherwise this is the typical cubicle type office environment with overhead lighting and temperature control. May also be exposed to varying environment conditions when/if travelling to projects.
