Western National Parks Association (WNPA), a nonprofit partner of the National Park Service (NPS), home-based in Tucson, Arizona is seeking a Full-Time, Senior Graphic Designer who will be responsible for conceptualizing, designing, and executing print, digital collateral, and advertising to help meet organizational goals.
WNPA is seeking a dedicated, ambitious, and creative collaborator who will take on creating content for a wide audience working with WNPA’s more than 70 retail stores across 12 Western states. This position will oversee and manage the Graphic Designer and outside freelancers while working under the direction of the Senior Marketing Manager. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Designing and producing digital and printed materials (e.g. print ads, flyers, emails, web content, paid and organic social media post images, brochures, newsletters, handouts, logos and campaign marks, books, etc.) to support departments within the organization (e.g. retail, programming, philanthropy, human resources, publishing, accounting etc.).
- Creating design solutions that are targeted to and appeal to a wide range of audiences, including people who are advocates/supporters of national parks, National Park Service partners, WNPA board members, WNPA’s members, donors, and internal staff.
- Driving innovative visual storytelling by ideating and executing creative, quality designs/ templates and graphics for digital marketing campaigns from paid advertisements, social content, emails, and beyond.
- Ensuring visual, communication, and brand standards are met across all projects.
- Managing the production process of print projects from start to finish, including corresponding with vendors, obtaining cost estimates, obtaining approval for costs, creating and sending transmittal memos, preparing files for printing, and supervising the manufacturing, delivery, and quality control of the project.
- Leveraging data and brand direction to inform strategy and solutions.
- Designing and/or illustrating for park-related collectibles and apparel.
- Assigning work to and overseeing the work of freelancer designers and illustrators.
- Overseeing the work of the Graphic Designer giving thoughtful and constructive feedback.
- Developing and designing email communications and promotions.
- Collaborating with marketing team to develop an overarching marketing and branding strategy.
- Collaborating with marketing team to create and refine standard operating procedures to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
- Maintaining awareness of market landscape from a design perspective by studying trends and conducting competitive analysis.
- Inputting and maintaining accurate schedule, cost, specification, and administrative data and content in all required systems in a timely manner.
- Keeping accurate records of project history (including archiving final files, proof history, production quotes, and other information pertinent to the project) and accurate notes/recommendations for future projects.
- Keep up-to-date on design best practices and advancements in tools and resources.
- Providing progress and project updates and reports to Sr. Marketing Manager.
- Writing small amounts of copy for emails, social posts, etc. if needed adhering to WNPA’s editorial guide.
- Reviewing social media posts and other writing by outside vendors and suggesting changes.
- Responding to comments from the public on WNPA social media feeds as needed
- Photographing, color-correcting, outlining, etc. online store products.
- Performing other related duties as assigned.
TRAVEL
Occasional travel is required for meetings, conferences, and visits to partner parks. Remote positions may require frequent travel to the home office based in Tucson.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design or relevant field.
- Minimum ten years of experience in print and digital design.
- Illustration and/or photography skills a plus.
- Working knowledge of HTML, and CSS a plus.
- Experience with retail UX and website CMS such as Shopify for retail and Wordpress for organizational site.
- Experience creating reels and videos for social media and YouTube.
- Knowledge of project development, management, and oversight standards.
- Working knowledge of Mailchimp, Klayvio, or other email marketing software.
- Excellent visual, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to present/convey information in a clear, concise, and accurate manner.
- Creativity, problem-solving ideas, and high energy.
- Proficiency in photo color-correction and knowledge of resolution and file format requirements.
- Superior attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently on multiple projects simultaneously to meet tight deadlines.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills; ability to deal tactfully with diverse teams, situations, and ideas.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.

- Ability to write headlines, subheads, and other small amounts of copy if needed, following the WNPA editorial guide.
- Ability to give feedback on copywriting to outside vendors for social media, etc.
- Ability to reply to public comments on WNPA’s social media feeds.
- Ability to monitor and adhere to project and departmental budgets.
- Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, specifically InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat.
- Proficiency with Apple computers in an OSX environment.
- Understanding of digital media and website promotions and communications.
- Experience in negotiating with print and other vendors.
- Must possess intermediate-level computer skills, including but not limited to internet, databases, Microsoft Office Suite, and project management software (e.g. Asana).
- Must be comfortable with learning and using new hardware and software programs.
