The Center for Global Engagement, (CGE), is hiring a Communications & Marketing Special Events Coordinator to join our dedicated team of Communication professionals. CGE is comprised of seven units (English Language Institute, the International House, International Student and Scholar Services, Programs Abroad, Communications, Global Security, Risk and Resilience, & Global Research, Innovation and Partnerships) who are responsible for working throughout campus, across Tennessee and around the world to provide enriching and diverse international experiences for faculty, students, and scholars.
The University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UTK) is Tennessee's flagship university and premier public research institution. We are an R-1 land-grant university with approximately 30,000 students, 9500 faculty and staff, 11 colleges, and over 300 degree programs. There are more than 1600 international students and scholars on the UTK campus. The University is located on a 580-acre campus in the city of Knoxville in eastern Tennessee, near the Great Smoky Mountains. Position Summary
The Communications & Marketing Special Events Coordinator reports directly to the Communications Manager. The coordinator actively plans and supports various CGE events through organization, content generation, logistics, and oversight of various tasks. The coordinator plans and manages a wide range of CGE, campus-wide, and community-wide internationally focused events and outreach efforts.

Position Responsibilities
• Communications and Marketing
o Participates in CGE communications strategic planning process by studying objectives, and needs of the organization, and implements those strategies and tactics.
o Identifies story leads, provides creative and technical writing, editing, and proof-reading for stylistic and brand consistency across different channels such as print, e-newsletter, website, and social media.
o Works independently and collaboratively to generate content and creative pieces in the following areas: marketing and advertising, graphic and multimedia design, website design, management of social media channels, and presentations.
o Manages distribution list and distributes communication content to stakeholders for marketing and promotion purposes.
o Produces photo and video content.
o Provides work direction and supervision to students in absence of Communications Manager.
o Consults with clients, analyzes and assesses needs, and develops plans to best communicate their needs and objectives.
o Develops and implements creative solutions to communication problems.
• Outreach Planning and Supervision
o Arranges events including but not limited to public appearances, lectures, contests, or exhibits to increase CGE brand and service awareness, and promote goodwill.
o Develops and maintains metrics on the effectiveness of outreach efforts and events.
o Writes press releases and other media communications to promote CGE events.
o Aligns outreach efforts strategically to unit/organizational mission.
o Researches industry trends and sets the creative tone for events.
o Serves as a liaison between staff, faculty, visitors, and community representatives.
o Plans the design, appearance, presentation, and details of events.
o Plans promotional campaigns in all types of media for CGE outreach efforts and events.
o Plans and coordinates production details and timelines.
o Manages deadlines, tracks progress, and ensures events stay on track.
o Negotiates with venues and vendors.
o Oversees and manages logistical details of events such as invitations, catering orders, hotel rooms, transportation, audio and visual equipment, guest registration, speakers, security, parking, and
clean up.
o Develops and implements the process to document and assess the events attendance and impact and utilizes the data to inform future events.
o Plans and coordinates CGE outreach activities including setting up working groups, identifies leaders, and provides support and coordination for the working groups. Activities can include but are not limited to on-campus recruiting, students and alumni events, faculty and employee engagement
outreach events.
o Creates event budget and work within approved allowances for events.
• Outreach
o Establishes outreach and public relations strategy for building CGE brand awareness and goodwill.
o Develops plans for building relationships with campus and community partners including but not limited to coordinating with various organizations, identifying and scheduling tabling opportunities, and attending meetings with campus partners.
o Establishes or maintains cooperative relationships with representatives of community, campus, or public interest groups.
o Manages distribution list and distributes communication content to stakeholders for event promotion and outreach.
o Develops strategies and training for student assistants in support of campus-wide outreach efforts.
o Assists in the development of the CGE outreach strategy and tactics as part of CGE's Communications Strategic Plan.
• Social Media / Website Support / Other
o Provides support for various CGE communications efforts including but not limited to graphic design, technical writing, editing, proof-reading, website management, and social media communications.
Education and Experience Required: Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar field and proven ability in required job tasks.
Education and Experience Preferred: Three years of professional communications and marketing or event management experience.
