The Weitz Company is seeking an Estimator (open to various levels) to join our Southwest team in Phoenix, AZ!
This role supports the Estimating team by conducting quantity surveying, bid solicitation, working within the estimating system, and compiling cost history.
What You'll Do:
- Read and develop an understanding of technical plans/specifications and assist team in the complete project quantities on incomplete plans and specifications
- Produce reliable, complete, consistent, well-documented, and timely quantity surveys of items
- Generate design development estimates, providing quantities and components based on incomplete plans and specifications
- Assist in the development of complete project quantities based upon schematic level plans and elevations
- Assist in conducting organized sub and vendor solicitation
- Accurately communicate the required scope of work and ensure complete trade coverage is obtained
- Advise project lead of potential solicitation shortfalls
- Assist in the preparation of bid-day spreadsheets and detailed proposal tabulation sheets (Bid Tickets), including any custom client cost breakdown/schedule of values
- Assist in the review of trade proposals and scope letters as received to identify gaps and overlaps in scope of work
- Prepare the final estimate for rollover to the job cost accounting system, adjusted to meet project team's needs for cost management
- Prepare cost analysis reports including detailed backup for price savings while assisting with identifying value analysis opportunities throughout the estimating process
What We're Looking For:
- Education: A high school diploma is required. A degree in a construction-related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience:
- Previous experience in construction estimating or a related field.

- Detail-oriented and highly organized
- Ability to compare and analyze various systems and related cost impacts
- Excellent verbal and written communication
- High level of accuracy and skilled at math
- Ability to balance and prioritize projects with impending deadlines
- Business acumen and relationship building skills
- Ability to quickly learn new applications
- Technology:
- Proficient in basic computer software including Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook
- Knowledge of On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, or similar quantity takeoff software is a plus
- Ability to learn specific job-related software upon hire
