Job Requirements / Description

Monitor & manage the operation, maintenance, and repair of all vessel engineering systems and processes, diesel propulsion and electric generating systems, deck hydraulic and pneumatic systems, refrigeration systems, and fuel and lubrication systems. Works with all other departments especially the Factory and Fishmeal Plant.

Golden Alaska Seafoods, LLC. is seeking a Chief Engineer for our at-sea mothership sector fishing operations for Alaska Pollock and Pacific coast Hake and associated shipyard maintenance and repair.

- Hake season starts mid-May and goes until about mid-June (~2 trips).

- Pollock B season starts mid-June and goes until October (~10 trips).

- Pollock A Season starts in early January and goes until early April (~8 trips).

- You can expect to complete 10-15 trips per year through a rotation method, plus shipyard rotation responsibilities.

Duties:

  1. Engages in monitoring and management of preventive maintenance programs on all onboard engineering systems, pumps, motors, steam boiler, refrigeration, and fishmeal plant.
  2. Effectively coordinates with all vessel department heads to ensure safe, efficient operation of vessel.
  3. Fishmeal and Factory Mechanics work mostly self-sufficiently, but are supported by the Engine Room.
  4. Provides required information for the cost analysis on proposed system modifications, upgrades or replacements.
  5. Maintains ship fuel and discharge logs.
  6. Assists Port Engineer with shipyard projects as needed.
  7. Participates in drills, required safety training, and any other company required courses.
  8. Maintains complete records of engineering department activities, including machine operations.

The Engineering department, under the supervision of the Chief Engineer, is responsible for the operation, maintenance and repair of all vessel engineering systems and processes, diesel propulsion and electric generating systems, deck hydraulic and pneumatic systems, refrigeration systems, and fuel and lubrication systems. In addition, the Engineering department works closely with all other departments, especially the Factory, in that Fishmeal plant maintenance, when needed, is assisted by the Engine Room Department.

Requirements:

  • Minimum +5000 hp
  • 5+ years of at-sea engine room experience
  • Fluent English speaker/reader/writer
  • 5000 hp Chief License (Required)
