SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Foreman, the Pipe Layer is responsible for installing underground pipes, which vary in size from 6" - 72". Installation of the pipe includes positioning, joining and aligning the pipes at proper depths, angles and grades. The Pipe Layer is essential in communicating with other team members regarding the excavating activities associated with installing the pipe to ensure the work is performed safely and efficiently.


YOUR ROLE

  • Selects type and size of pipe, fittings, valves, couplings, and assembles the tools necessary for assembly and installation pursuant to the project plans and specifications.
  • Cuts pipe using saws and pipe cutter.
  • Assembles and installs variety of pipe, to include PVC, ductile iron, and concrete.
  • Connects pipes, using threaded, gasketed or cemented joints, and hand tools.
  • Utilizes shores and potholing techniques for safety purposes.
  • Utilizes pipe laser to ensure that pipe is installed on grade.
  • Tests pipe system for leaks.
  • Prepares trench to receive pipe, sand, gravel, etc.
  • May dig holes or drainage ditches using shovels and/or picks.
  • Signals equipment operators to ensure safe and proper excavation has been completed on trenches, etc.
  • Always wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while on the jobsite (i.e. vest, earplugs, glasses, hard hat, etc.).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


WHAT YOU BRING

• 2+ years of experience as a Pipe Layer in the construction industry.

• Demonstrates a high level of strength and endurance, as the position is physically demanding.

• Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness in the quality of the work.

• Demonstrates the ability to complete the work in a timely manner.

• Demonstrates good eye-hand coordination, balance and depth perception.

• Demonstrates effective written and oral communication skills.

• Demonstrates a sense of urgency in responding to all situations.

• Demonstrates the ability to work in a number of diverse locations, as work locations change regularly, and ability to work varying schedules. Overtime and weekend work are required, as necessary.

• Demonstrates ability to collaborate and work effectively as a team.

• Demonstrates responsibility in reporting to work on a consistent and timely basis.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The Pipe Layer while performing the essential functions of this job is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, reach with hands and arms, lift above their head, and talk or hear. The Pipe Layer is also required to kneel, crouch or stoop, climb ladders, bend at the waist, squat and crawl in tight or confined spaces to perform the essential functions of the job. The Pipe Layer will frequently lift, move or push up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision. Ascending or descending stairs is required, and movement of uneven terrain is frequently required to carry out essential duties.


PRE-SCREEN

Upon offer, employees will be required to complete and pass a pre-employment drug screen.


TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

Must be willing to travel within the State of Texas as needed, overnight or out of town stay may be required up to 2 weeks as needed.
