Job Requirements / Description

Company

Marathon Fusion is building the fuel cycle for fusion energy. We're accelerating the commercialization of critical technologies to ensure the safe and economic deployment of fusion energy at sufficient speed and scale to achieve climate impact.

Our work requires a willingness to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances and shifting priorities, while keeping an eye on the long-term goals that ultimately drive success. Navigating this environment necessitates effective communication across roles and backgrounds, a high degree of trust between team members, and the willingness to learn and develop new skills on the job. We place particular weight on a team member's ability to be self-directed and proactive.

The first technology Marathon Fusion is developing is the Metal Foil Pump, which relies on superpermeation to pump hydrogen isotopes at Fusion compatible conditions. This pump would enable competitive and efficient fusion fuel cycles.

Role:

You will be responsible for supporting multiple projects as needs arise. In addition, this role will be responsible for performing scoping work including physics analysis on new projects, as well as developing initial experiments to test concepts. This role will also submit and manage grants to support current and future projects.

In your first year at Marathon, you’ll:

  • Perform scoping studies on critical technologies to support fusion deployment, and submit grants to support future work on these concepts

  • Support experimental, computational, and analytical work driving superpermeable pump development

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A graduate degree in plasma physics or equivalent experience

  • A high degree of independence and drive to tackle challenging new projects

  • A strong understanding of the requirements of fusion engineering systems and the fusion industry

  • Proficient at data analysis and presentation

  • Proficient at written and oral communication.

  • Experience writing and submitting grants to DOE and other funding agencies

  • Capable of handling operational tasks required for grant management
