We’re Building An Energy Management Platform That Helps:

  • Homeowners become their own renewable energy provider—saving money and reducing carbon emissions.
  • Commercial and industrial businesses reduce their operating costs while increasing reliability.
  • Grid operators keep the electricity grid stable and cost efficient.

Our software experiences operate at IOT scale—each of our customers produce ~1M data points per day—and seamlessly integrates with Torus designed and manufactured firmware and hardware.

We think about developing software differently than most companies. Torus is truly customer centric, which means we obsess over product-market fit and center our users in every internal conversation. We use Human Centered Design and Lean Software Development practices to ensure we are consistently delighting our customers. We obsess over creating a continuous flow from product discovery into product delivery that prioritizes creating customer outcomes, not just shipping code to production.

Who You Are

  • Your power as a leader is grounded in—and founded on—empathy.
  • You embrace being accountable for software performance (e.g., reliable, scalable, and secure).
  • You create psychological safety with everyone you interact with.

  • You understand how to drive continuous improvement through every stage of software development—resulting in teams with consistently high flow efficiency.
  • You thrive working in a startup environment.
  • You’re able to move seamlessly between high-level strategy concerns, and low-level tactical execution—which means you’re willing and able to contribute to the team’s work.

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

  • Be accountable for overall team performance including recruiting, hiring, and managing our team of full-stack software engineers.
  • Cultivate the people, practices, and culture which result in a team that consistently delights users with software that is reliable, scalable, and secure.
  • Create and manage a technology strategy that balances speed and quality. This will include partnering with our Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) to ensure our software platform is secure.

Experience And Skills You’ll Need To Be Successful

  • 5+ years of experience as a full-stack or back-end Software Engineer.
  • 3+ years of experience recruiting, mentoring, and managing Software Engineers.
  • Experience being accountable for the technical performance of their teams (think critical path uptime, response times, etc.)
  • Consistent success in helping Software Engineers partner with Product, Design, and Data teams.
  • Proven approaches in coaching teams to effectively break down features and manage the software development lifecycle (think everything between final design prototypes and general release).
  • A track record of ensuring code quality is constantly improving through automated testing, architectural fitness tests, etc.—including strongly held opinions about how we should evaluate and manage code quality over time.
  • Occasional travel.
