SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE OF ROLE:

Group Strategic Planning (GSP) adds value to AGA through providing strategic insights into the potential of individual assets, the assessment of major external investment opportunities, & improved decision making across the Portfolio. To achieve our objectives, the GSP function relies on both quantitative and qualitative analysis to support data-driven decision making. The Director GSP Modelling & Analytics will assist the SVP Group Strategic Planning, GSP Engagement Leads, and other AGA clients with the delivery of their objectives including the annual strategic planning process, strategic asset reviews, brownfields exploration budgeting, and due diligence activities.

They will provide leadership and guidance on strategic mine planning systems & software and data analytics tools & approaches. They will direct complex modelling and data-driven initiatives that support delivery of corporate strategy and organizational goals. This is a strategic leadership role, with responsibility for shaping the overall direction of the function in collaboration with senior leadership and AGA stakeholders.

They will be accountable for:

  • Leading and mentoring a diverse team of data analysts, modelers, and specialists, fostering a culture of innovation and strategic thinking.
  • Maintaining and updating integrated datasets essential for informing critical AGA activities and processes (e.g. Portfolio modelling, exploration budgeting & reporting, business development).
  • Supporting GSP engagement scoping and execution, i.e. the selection of fit-for-purpose modelling approaches, sourcing inputs & assumptions, and model development where required.
  • Assisting with the planning, execution, and improvement of the annual Strategic Options Workshop (SOW) process ensuring alignment with corporate timelines and objectives.
  • Supporting the AGA Exploration for Value (E4V) process which helps determine group wide brownfields exploration priorities and budgets.
  • Supporting Full Asset Potential engagements with advanced modelling and planning tools.
  • Engaging with senior leaders and management, driving cross-functional collaboration, and improving the modelling & analytics ‘health of discipline’ within AGA.

The role is focused on delivering value adding & insightful analysis which support an informed decision-making process at the asset and AGA portfolio level.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Safety Accountabilities:

  • Demonstrate and support a proactive safety culture within the team and the organization.
  • Identify safety risks, help resolve emerging issues, escalate issues when needed.
  • Take opportunities during site visits to engage on safety.
  • Model behavior consistent with the AGA Safety Vision, Values, and Procedures.

Work Accountabilities:

  • Leadership and guidance on AGA strategic mine planning systems & software and data analytics tools & approaches.
  • Maintaining and updating integrated datasets essential for informing critical AGA activities and processes (e.g. strategic LOM planning, exploration budgeting & reporting, business development).
  • Supporting GSP engagement scoping and execution, i.e. the selection of fit-for-purpose modelling approaches, sourcing inputs & assumptions, and model development where required.
  • Assisting with the planning, execution, and improvement of the annual Strategic Options Workshop (SOW) process ensuring alignment with corporate timelines and objectives.
  • Supporting the AGA Exploration for Value (E4V) process which helps determine group wide brownfields exploration priorities and budgets.
  • Oversee the management of the exploration reporting and planning system, including directing maintenance, enhancements, and technical support in collaboration with DT support functions.
  • Manage the data collection and validation processes within the function ensuring accuracy and alignment with the portfolio models.
  • Design the frameworks and approaches for consolidated portfolio analysis and presentations that effectively communicate key findings and insights to stakeholders.
  • Provide expert level support to ensure models & analytical tools and methods continually improve to support evolving requirements and to align with industry benchmarks.
  • Build and maintain professional networks within the industry to enhance knowledge, influence, and represent the company professionally.

People Accountabilities:

  • Engaging with senior leaders and management, driving cross-functional collaboration, and improving the modelling & analytics ‘health of discipline’ within AGA.
  • Ensuring effective resource allocation and development of team members, including performance management, succession planning, and professional growth.

Scheduling Accountabilities:

  • Coordinating cross-functional and cross-departmental schedules for SOW, strategic asset reviews and data-driven initiatives.
  • Establishing high-level timelines for delivering key analytics and insights to senior leadership, ensuring deadlines support major decision-making processes.
  • Manage schedules for the development, implementation, and adoption of new modelling tools, ensuring timely completion.
  • Direct the alignment of team schedules with group annual planning calendars to synchronize cross-functional activities and projects.

Financial Accountabilities:

  • Support annual GSP direct budget development & estimation.
  • Influence AGA investment decision making by contributing to value adding & insightful engagements. The estimated indirect financial influence of this role is in excess of $100M NPV per annum.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Can identify and interpret safety risks and resolve emerging issues; and ensuring that appropriate focus and resources are available to achieve safety objectives.

Modelling & Analytics - Development and Project Management (Mastery):

  • Mastery in leading the development and adoption of mine planning tools, systems, and processes.
  • Expert-level proficiency in complex project management, demonstrated experience with the delivery of successful mine planning related modelling, software, and analytical projects.
  • Expert-level understanding of cross-functional collaboration and stakeholder management to ensure successful scoping, implementation, and adoption of the Modelling & Analytics team’s activities.

Evaluation Modelling Processes & Analysis (Expert Application):

  • Expert in developing detailed, mine planning related, financial models.
  • Advanced knowledge of advanced evaluation modelling techniques.
  • Expert level experience with analysis and interpretation of results from ‘techno-economic’ models.
  • Expert in integrating data analytics with strategic business objectives and decision-making frameworks.
  • Advanced skills in developing innovative modelling approaches, adapting to emerging business needs and technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of financial definitions and value drivers to align analytical models with AGA standards and definitions.

EDUCATION & QUALIFICATIONS:

Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, mathematics or mining related discipline.
  • MBA would be advantageous.

REQUIRED GENERAL KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:

Experience:

  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in the resources industry.
  • 5+ Years in an operating environment.
  • 5+ Years in finance or business planning related roles.
  • Experience managing and directing technical and/or analytical teams.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial processes and systems, particularly as part of business planning.
  • Successful delivery of projects on time and within budget.
  • A track record of finding practical solutions to modelling and analysis approaches.
  • Sound understanding and practical experience in modelling and analysis:
    • Cost estimation models - operating & capital.
    • Cash flow modelling.
    • Capital investment analysis.
    • Theory of Constraints.
    • Risk assessment.
    • Value optimization.
  • Experience with LOM planning and options analysis.
  • Experience in utilising data from financial systems and databases.
  • Proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite of applications.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

This is a full-time, exempt position in the Denver Office.

COMPENSATION: $148,000-$220,000
