Basic Function

HF Sinclair in Dallas, TX is seeking an Associate General Counsel - Environmental who will assist the Deputy General Counsel in performing the duties of the Legal Department. This role will also provide counseling and legal advice/support on refining, pipeline and related environmental, health and safety matters.

Job Duties

(functions considered essential as defined by ADA):

  1. Provide professional legal advice to assist the Companies with compliance with applicable environmental and other laws and regulations (RMP, PMP, OSHA, EPA and relevant state agencies).
  2. Advise management of the legal implications of administrative and operational activities.
  3. Plan and develop solutions to existing or potential legal problems involving the Companies, and advise management concerning legal rights and obligations.
  4. Coordinate and develop the Companies' advocacy position on future legislative and regulatory matters and participate in various industry trade organizations with focus on environmental issues.
  5. Review, negotiate and draft contracts and provide training to business teams.
  6. Collaborate proactively with business partners to anticipate issues and create a culture of compliance.
  7. Participate in continuing legal education programs and other activities as necessary to keep informed of developments in the law, new and proposed statutes and regulations, economic and social issues and other matters of interest to the Companies and the energy industry.
  8. Conduct legal due diligence for possible acquisitions and dispositions.
  9. Coordinate outside counsel's involvement in various matters.
  10. Communicate/interact with governmental agencies and outside counsel.

Special assignments or tasks assigned to the employee by his/her superior, as determined from time to time in the supervisor's sole and complete discretion.

Experience

  1. A minimum of ten years' experience as a licensed attorney in environmental law in the petroleum refining industry.
  2. Member in good standing of the Texas State Bar (or another state in which the Company owns significant assets).

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  1. A minimum of ten years' experience as a licensed attorney with eight years of environmental law in the petroleum refining industry is preferred.

Education Level

  1. A minimum of a Jurisprudence Doctorate Degree from an American Bar Association accredited law school is required.

Supervisory/Managerial Responsibility

Must be able to supervise and lead work of paralegals and outside counsel effectively.

Work Conditions

Office based with travel up to 25% by land and air required. Subject to all weather and varying road conditions.

Physical Requirements

Job conditions require standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking and hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs., pushing or pulling up to 40 lbs., perceiving color differences, ability to operate and drive all assigned company vehicles at company standard insurance rates is essential, and valid. State driver's license and proof of insurance required.
