The mission of the Henry Morrison Flagler Museum is to preserve and interpret Whitehall Henry Flagler’s legacy and America’s Gilded Age, inspiring every generation to perpetuate and emulate the traditions and values that have made America the most prosperous and generous nation in history.

The Flagler Museum is financially solid and poised to enter a new chapter of impact, inspiring the community and nation in innovative ways.

With an operating budget of $7.6M and a team of over 60 individuals, the museum is governed by an eight-member Board of Trustees. A robust investment portfolio of $43M operates as an endowment to support organizational operations. The Executive Director will lead a team of seasoned professionals in Museum Curation, Facilities, External Relations, Program, and Finance, building on a culture of integrity, attention to detail, and exceptional quality of visitor experience and programming.

The next leader must be passionate about the Gilded Age and its lasting values. Candidates should have at least ten years of leadership experience in education, nonprofit, corporate, or government sectors, demonstrating the ability to operate effectively within a nonprofit governing environment, either by serving on governing boards or reporting to Boards as part of an Executive leadership team.

This inspiring leader will demonstrate success in operating a financially healthy organization and in building and leading a dedicated team. Experience in developing durable relationships with a diverse group of partners, donors, stakeholders, and constituencies is essential, along with knowledge of nonprofit fundraising strategies and practices. Proficiency in understanding the mechanics of running a house museum or a similar historical or cultural institution is also required.

As a key spokesperson for the Museum, excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary. A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university is expected, with a graduate level degree preferred. Experience in leading a cultural institution with historical and/or national presence and comfort in fundraising and development activities is preferred.

The compensation range for this position is $300,000 to $350,000 annually, with a generous benefits package including: Medical, Dental, Vision, Short-Term and Long-Term Disability Insurance Options; a 403-b retirement savings plan with a 10% match; Vacation and Sick time; Ten (10) Paid Holidays; and Family Bereavement leave.
