Position Summary:

Apellis is seeking an experienced and talented marketing leader for the role of Sr. Director, US Brand Lead - Ophthalmology. It is an outstanding opportunity to make a significant impact for patients and the company, leading the US marketing organization with the commercialization of SYFOVRE (pegcetacoplan) or Apellis.

The US Brand Lead will be responsible for leading a strong team and guiding that team through market shaping, development and implementation of strategic and tactical programs for SYFOVRE. They will be the strategic hub of the US organization. They will be deeply engaged with cross-functional partners, driving collaboration and accountability across the organization to deliver business results. They will report to the VP, North America Sales & Marketing - Ophthalmology.

Key Responsibilities Include:

  1. Lead and manage a high-performing US marketing team whose approach aligns with Apellis' mission, values, and culture. Support team members in their development.
  2. Manage a vision and plan for the commercialization of SYFOVRE in Geographic Atrophy, secondary to AMD in the US market.
  3. Cultivate collaboration and accountability across key cross-functional teams to deliver on all elements of that plan in a way that aligns with brand strategy and the corporate values / culture.
  4. Work closely with field team counterparts and gain insights for these teams.
  5. Breed a culture of patient-focus and physician-centricity throughout the organization.
  6. Think holistically about the business and closely monitor performance against key metrics, taking accountability for driving success over the long-term in a highly competitive market.
  7. Effectively socialize brand strategy and core marketing activities across all levels of the organization.
  8. Develop professional relationships and contacts with physician experts and KOLs.
  9. Ensure that policies, procedures, and infrastructure for compliance, legal, and regulatory are in place to support US marketing execution.
  10. Drive efficient and thoughtful stewardship of marketing team budget.

Education, Registration & Certification:

  • BS/BA degree in life sciences, MBA preferred.

Experience:

  • 8+ years of biotech/pharma experience, predominantly in marketing roles of increasing scope and responsibility but also with experience in complementary commercial roles (e.g., patient & HCP marketing, sales, market access, commercial operations, global marketing, etc.).
  • Ophthalmology-Retina (preferred).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in a buy and bill environment is preferred.

  • An entrepreneurial spirit coupled with the drive to embrace innovation and develop creative but well-reasoned solutions to business challenges.
  • Motivation to be a part of envisioning and building the infrastructure, systems, and tactics to ensure launch success.
  • Demonstrated integrity on the job, including an understanding of relevant rules and regulations.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence across functions and varying levels of management.
  • Ability to navigate and be successful in a fast-paced, results-driven environment, managing through ambiguity.

Travel Requirements:

  • Willing to travel domestically up to 30% of the time and attend events outside of business hours (e.g., occasional weekends and evenings).
