Position Summary
The Lead Quantitative Engineer for Risk and Research Technology is critical in shaping the future of investment technology at TCW. You'll be at the heart of our mission for alpha idea generation, developing and refining quantitative models, analytics, libraries, and applications that empower our investment professionals to make informed decisions.
The successful candidate should have significant experience in financial services, especially with Insurance Solutions, working closely with the front office to develop advanced analytics applications for Insurance portfolio analytics, regulatory capital efficiency analysis, asset-liability analysis, portfolio optimization, scenario analysis, risk management, and client reporting.
Essential Duties
- End-to-end Application Ownership: Lead the delivery of insurance investment systems from inception to maintenance, ensuring scalability, high performance, and timely updates. Lead the requirements gathering and technical solutions, with accurate timeline estimations to avoid delays. Produce detailed documentation and training to ensure effective use and support of applications.
- Collaboration Across Teams: Work effectively with the Insurance Solutions Group, Portfolio Managers, Distribution and Client Service Professionals, Quantitative Researchers, Risk Managers, and technologists. Communicate complex concepts clearly with all stakeholders, fostering cross-team collaboration in delivering the total returns system.
- Quantitative Modeling and Distributed Computing: Build and refine quantitative models and algorithms, optimizing for large datasets and high-frequency analyses. Monitor application and system performance, identifying and resolving bottlenecks to maximize efficiency and usability, including refining algorithms, upgrading hardware, or adopting new technologies.
- Compliance and Security: In all module development, strictly adhere to legal, regulatory, and best practices.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Model coding, problem-solving, and project management. Provide constructive feedback, promote innovation, and support a learning-focused team environment.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor's (or higher) holder in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field with a penchant for quantitative challenges.
- 8+ years of experience in full-stack software development, advanced knowledge of quantitative methods, and statistical modeling.
- Experience leading complex software projects, with 5+ years' experience coding in Python.
- Experience with database systems such as Snowflake and SQL servers.
- Experience in Insurance Solutions: global regulatory frameworks (for example, NAIC RBC, Basel III, Solvency II, and J-ICS), book value and book yield analytics, realized/unrealized loss analytics, securitized products modeling, cash flow projection, asset-liability analytics, scenario analysis, and portfolio optimization.

Desired Qualifications
- Experience with 3rd party systems such as Aladdin, Clearwater, Intex, Bloomberg PORT, and Power BI.
- Worked on cloud-native development and using CSP-managed services (Azure).
- Identification, evaluation, and capture of alternative data for tradable insights.

Working Conditions: Work is in an office setting.
Estimated Compensation:
Base Salary: For CA based position, the base salary range is $190K to $220K. This is an anticipated range for base salary only.
Other Compensation: Eligible to be considered for an annual discretionary bonus.
