Job Description

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish. The Strategic Partnerships Division supports the vision, mission, and direction of the agency by working across all DYCD program areas to create partnerships and strategies that enhance the quality of work done by DYCD and our contracted providers. The goal of the strategic partnerships unit is to strengthen our connections to neighborhoods throughout NYC and deepen our impact to better support community needs and positive experiences provided by our programs.

Recognizing that sports-based youth and community development plays a significant role in providing meaningful opportunities for NYC neighborhoods, the Strategic Partnerships unit looks to strengthen our sports network, direction, and opportunities for our providers citywide. Under the supervision of the Senior Director, the Deputy Director for Sports Management will be responsible for providing support and oversight of our Neighborhood Youth Team Sports grant and all DYCD sports-related activations. Some specific duties of the Deputy Director of Sports Management will include:

  • Create the roadmap and strategy for the programming, procurement, contracting, and execution of the NYS Youth Sports Grant Program with clear short, medium, and long-term objectives based on NYS required mandate and shared vision of desired outcomes.
  • Work with non-profit providers throughout NYC to build and create an ecosystem that will give young people easy access to a standard of good sports programs.
  • Responsible for implementation, running, monitoring, and evaluation of the sport programs throughout the year.
  • Work closely with the NYS Office of Children and Family Services (OCFS), NYC Mayors of Sports, Wellness and Recreation, and NYC Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) to collectively ensure that requisite funds are arranged in line with the Mayoral objectives.
  • Develop working relationships with sports bodies, key stakeholders, government agencies, elected officials, and autonomous partners.
  • Develop synergistic partnerships with other organizations working towards similar goals and replicate best practices.
  • Able to connect collegiate institutions, scholarship opportunities, and Olympic programs to young athletes to ensure that the talent generated out of the sport programs is visible to all coaches, stakeholders, families, and participants.
  • Network and engage the cross-departmental teams. Work collaboratively across all DYCD workforce, youth, and community development programs.
  • Build effective external relationships with elected officials, city agencies, and community-based, faith-based, and grassroots organizations.
