The Position
The purpose of this classification is to oversee the installation, maintenance, operation, and repair of city and county electronic/electrical traffic control equipment and devices.
Duties
Supervises, directs and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining and completing employee performance appraisals.
Prioritizes trouble calls and assigns personnel/resources to correct equipment malfunctions with immediate impact on public safety.
Assigns work and oversees routine repair and maintenance of equipment.
Assigns personnel and resources to construction programs such as new traffic equipment installations, the laying of communications cable, sensor installation and vehicle and pedestrian crossings.
Consults with traffic engineer to discuss construction progress and maintenance, new construction and resource needs.
Studies technical literature and attends seminars to keep current on new technology.
Communicates with computer-controlled closed loop systems connected to on-street master; maintains mainframe controlling downtown intersections.
Coordinates outside contractors involved in the construction of traffic control equipment; ensures compliance with city and county standards.
Writes specifications and purchase requisitions to procure vehicles, outside repair services and construction/maintenance supplies and equipment.
Plans and executes annual preventive maintenance programs.
Plans and submits annual division budget.
Consults with utility companies and other city and county divisions/departments to provide information, coordinate activities, provide technical expertise, discuss problems or receive support.
Applies to the department of transportation for right-of-way and encroachment permits.
Attends pre-construction meetings affecting traffic control.
Maintains equipment inventory for repair and emergency replacement.

Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Electronics, or closely related field preferred; additionally, five (5) years progressively responsible experience and/or training that includes traffic signal computer system operations and electronics preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver's license. Must be certified in traffic signalization, traffic signal operations, and management of traffic signal control systems.

ADA COMPLIANCE
Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).
