Description
Medical Assistant Position
Position Summary:
Under direction of the LVN supervisor, the Medical Assistant performs a variety of tasks for the agency in as much as it is the primary contact via telephone for internal and external stakeholders with the clinic. Essential duties include providing excellent customer/patient service via phone, email and in person; referring callers to the appropriate departments; making appointments for patients according to established protocols; assisting with clients and staff with appropriate documents. Must be able to work collaboratively with various departments to provide proper care to patients/clients with a "can-do" attitude.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clerical work includes but not limited to:
  • Performs day to day administrative functions and general office duties including but not limited to word processing, copying, filing, faxing, answering phones and data entry according to CRH protocols
  • Obtains proper documentations for all youth at CRH set forth by title 22 to be in compliance
  • Works with social workers to obtain client information such as insurance providers, etc.
  • Coordinates with pharmacy on billing, insurance and medications clarifications
  • Communicates directly with Physicians, Nurses, pharmacist and social workers via phone, email, or fax
  • Schedule client's medical and dental appointments within 30 days of placement per title 22 regulations
  • Maintain outlook appointment calendar for residential and psychiatry departments
  • Complete appointment paperwork before and after appointment
  • Acts as a liaison for the psychiatrist, client and family members
  • Adheres to all clinic policies on safety and security; maintains restricted areas safe by safeguarding keyless entry codes and computer system passwords
  • Must exercise utmost diplomacy and tact to provide excellent customer service for patients" practices confidentiality and privacy protocols in accordance to clinic policies and HIPPA requirements.
  • Counting controlled medications and the beginning and end of each shift
  • Setting medications and assisting with medications administrations daily
  • Reordering and logging in medication per Title 22
  • Checking medication expiration dates once a month
  • Obtaining proper documentation and storage of all PRN medications per Title 22
    Tracks all clinic supplies and requests order as necessary
  • Completes intake using proper clinic protocols
  • Completes discharge using proper clinic protocols
  • Exercises problem solving and conflict resolution skills when handling patient complaints; refers patient complaints to appropriate designated personnel as needed.
  • Performs all the other related duties
Clinical work including but not limited to:
  • Obtaining vitals as needed for patients/ clients. Including height and weight
  • Performing lice treatments as needed for CRH youths and per request of PSU
  • Assisting with intake assessments as needed
  • Assessing youth at PSU if requested and reporting to LVN or physician
  • Assisting with wound care using basic first aid
  • Being able to provide basic first aid and CPR as needed
  • Being able to administer PPD skin test and read and document results as follows
  • All other related job duties

Education/Experience:
  • Possession of a Medical Assistant Certificate is required
  • High School Diploma or GED required

Licenses, Certifications, Registrations:
• Must possess a valid California Driver's License.
• Must be at least 21 years of age.
• Must pass First Aid certification course before start of employment. Certification can be completed through the Children's Receiving Home.
• Must pass CPR within the first six weeks of employment
• Must pass Bloodborne Pathogens and Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification courses offered through the Children's Receiving Home within the first three months of employment.
• Must maintain TCI, CPR, First Aid and BBP Certification throughout employment.
• Must complete online Mandated Reporter Training within first week of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:
• Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office Suite and web browsers effectively.
• Ability to read, speak, understand, analyze and interpret documents such as client safety/treatment plans, assessment materials and procedure manuals in the English language.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands and talk or hear. Fine motor skills such as typing, the use of a computer mouse and telephone handset is required. Employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is required to sit, stoop, kneel and crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Hourly Wage Range: $17.00 - $19.00
