The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing financial processes, ensuring accuracy, and preparing reports to support business goals. This role involves managing complex accounting tasks, including cost tracking, budgeting, and project-based financial analysis, with an emphasis on construction accounting. The Senior Accountant also collaborates closely with project managers and other departments to optimize financial efficiency and compliance with industry standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:  Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports for construction projects, ensuring accuracy and compliance with GAAP.
  • Construction Project Accounting:  Manage job costing, track project-specific expenses, and handle work-in-progress (WIP) reporting. Collaborate with project managers to provide accurate cost projections.
  • Reconciliations:  Perform complex account reconciliations, including bank reconciliations, project accounts, and general ledger adjustments to maintain accuracy.
  • Month-End and Year-End Close:  Oversee month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring timely completion and accuracy of all entries related to construction projects.
  • Budgeting and Forecasting:  Assist in creating and managing budgets for construction projects, conducting variance analysis, and preparing reports for management. Monitor actuals vs. budgets to ensure financial targets are met.
  • Audit Preparation and Support:  Prepare schedules and documents required for audits and reviews, particularly those related to construction projects.
  • Accounts Payable/Receivable Management:  Oversee AP/AR functions specific to construction projects, ensuring accurate billing, payment processing, and timely collection.
  • Compliance and Documentation:  Ensure all transactions adhere to company policies and regulatory standards, maintaining organized and accessible documentation for compliance.
  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration:  Work closely with project managers, procurement, and other departments to ensure smooth financial operations and accurate cost reporting.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Education:  Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
  • Experience:  Minimum 3-5 years of progressive accounting experience, with a preference for candidates with construction industry experience  or familiarity with project-based accounting.
  • Technical Skills:  Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage 300, QuickBooks, or Viewpoint). Knowledge of construction accounting software and WIP reporting is strongly preferred.
  • Analytical Skills:  Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with experience in job costing, cost allocations, and financial forecasting.
  • Attention to Detail:  High level of accuracy and attention to detail, particularly in managing project budgets, costs, and reconciliations.
  • Organizational Skills:  Ability to prioritize, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines in a dynamic, project-focused environment.
  • Communication Skills:  Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial data to non-financial stakeholders.

Work Environment:

  • Primarily an office environment, with the option for remote or hybrid work depending on company policies.
  • Occasional travel may be required to visit project sites or attend meetings.
  • May require extended hours during peak accounting periods (e.g., month-end, year-end).

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $90,000.00 - $150,000.00 per year
