The English Department at Twyford School is a thriving, supportive team comprised of class teachers in the lower parts of the School and specialist subject teachers in Years 5-8, who work together to ensure pupils receive the very best teaching, shaped by research and collaboration.
The Head of English will lead the teaching of English throughout the School, ensuring high standards of teaching, learning, and achievement by delivering outstanding teaching and leadership. The role includes encouraging efficient use of resources and the creative development of the English curriculum.
Lessons are expected to be of high quality, with a focus on pupil learning and positive reinforcement. The Head of English will ensure that all appropriate schemes of work are in place (liaising with Prep school colleagues) and will plan individual lessons appropriate to the needs of the pupils in the classes taught.
The Head of English has responsibility for the School Library and line management of the Librarian, ensuring the Library provides the best possible learning resources for pupils of all ages and abilities.
The successful candidate will be expected to participate in the pastoral, extra-curricular, and wider areas of School life, including undertaking a weekly boarding duty.
