Position Overview
Reporting to and working under the direction of the Development Manager, the Development Specialist will play a critical role in implementing the organization's fundraising efforts and supporting the organization's strategic direction, specifically as it relates to assisting with sponsorship campaigns. This individual will contribute to implementing, monitoring, and evaluating fundraising campaign activities that support NCRC's mission and priorities.
Location
This position is based in Washington, DC near McPherson Square Metro as part of a hybrid environment with Tuesdays, Thursdays, and sometimes Wednesdays in the office.

Position Overview
Reporting to and working under the direction of the Development Manager, the Development Specialist will play a critical role in implementing the organization's fundraising efforts and supporting the organization's strategic direction, specifically as it relates to assisting with sponsorship campaigns. This individual will contribute to implementing, monitoring, and evaluating fundraising campaign activities that support NCRC's mission and priorities.

Responsibilities
- Sponsorship Campaign Coordination (60%)
- Collaborate with the Development Director to implement effective campaign strategies tailored to meet fundraising goals
- Maintain accurate records of donor information, campaign progress, and financials using CRM software and other tools (this includes creating dashboards and deal cards for all existing and prospective funders)
- Conduct research to understand the target audience, donor trends, and competitive landscape to help inform campaign strategies
- Draft outreach letters, correspondence, and invoices to support Development Manager and Senior Executive team secure sponsor commitments
- Reach out to potential sponsors via email, phone calls, or in-person meetings to help ensure sponsor benefits are realized and communication is completed in a timely manner
- Organize and manage fundraising events, ensuring all logistics are handled and the event runs smoothly
- Support the design and implementation of strategic stewardship program centered around donor appreciation and retention
- Work closely with other team members, including communications, design, and public relations specialists, to ensure sponsor branding and messaging are effectively integrated into conference materials, website, and promotional activities
- Steward relationships with key stakeholders, including donors, sponsors, community leaders, and partners
- Lead in invoice creation, ensuring documentation of funding information and senior management preferences for disseminating and administering invoices
- Assist the Development Director in evaluating campaign activities and refining solicitation processes for messaging, donor cultivation and personalization
- Conduct research on potential donors, especially during off season, to support the Development Director in donor cultivation
- Fundraising Strategy and Operations (30%)
- Assist in developing campaigns targets or financial goals
- Help develop and implement communication strategies to support fundraising efforts
Develop project timelines outlining key grant milestones and deadlines for grant submissions - Prepare reports on campaigns for the director and other stakeholders as needed
- Take on special projects as assigned by the director, such as researching new fundraising opportunities or developing new fundraising initiatives
- Provide project management support to ensure timely and successful completion of campaigns
- Provide updates on campaign status at weekly development meetings
- Co-manage the Communications and Development intern program, including recruitment, selection, and daily management of interns
- Grant Coordination (10%)
- Communicate to the Development Manager when a sponsorship must be applied to in the form of a grant
- Provide information as needed to the development manager about major institutional funders to complete grant applications
- Bachelor's degree in communications, public policy, public administration or related field preferred; or equivalent combination of experience and education
- 2-3 years of nonprofit experience with a track record of fundraising success
- Excellent written communication skills; able to write persuasively and passionately about our organization's mission
- Exceptional project management and multitasking skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, disciplined, and sometimes unpredictable environment
- Strong understanding of database management systems, including customer management systems or client management systems (CMS)
- Deep commitment to NCRC's core values and ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners
