Reporting to the Director of Occupational Health at Faulkner, the Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner (OHN/NP) utilizes a full range of clinical skills in providing direct care to patients in a variety of simple and complex situations for the purpose of occupational health promotion and prevention, case management to facilitate positive outcomes for employees impacted by occupational injury, illness, or exposure, program development and management related to the occupational health needs of the organization, occupational health expertise in collaboration with other members of the health and safety infrastructure to provide consultation as needed by members of the organization, and communications and training to effectively educate employees and supervisors about occupational risk and their role in reducing risk of injury and illness.

Responsibilities:

  1. Use the Mass General Brigham values to govern decisions, actions and behaviors.
  2. Assesses employees presenting with a variety of simple and complex presentations related to occupational injury, illness, or exposure; develops treatment plans in accordance with established clinical protocols.
  3. Acts as a liaison between the patient and providers to whom they are referred.
  4. Arranges job accommodation and early return to work schedules.
  5. May also plan and implement occupational health programs and selected health services independently or collaboratively.
  6. Exercises an ability to assess and anticipate occupational health risks throughout the organization by analyzing data.
  7. Utilizes a full range of written and verbal communication techniques to educate people on occupational health and safety issues.
  8. Promotes teamwork and builds relationships within the department and throughout the organization.
  9. Collaborates with occupational health colleagues for case review, risk assessment, and program development.
  10. Maintains appropriate records and databases to meet all standards.
  11. Gathers and analyzes outcome measures for the purpose of organizational surveillance and program review and development.
  12. Participates in providing rotating on-call coverage for nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications:

  1. Currently licensed as either an Adult or Family Nurse Practitioner in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
  2. Current CPR certification required.
  3. COHN-S and NIOSH spirometry certification preferred.
  4. Up to five years of nursing experience including preference for a minimum of one year of occupational health nursing experience.
  5. Must meet the clinical credentialing requirements of Mass General Brigham.

  2. Utilizes principles of case management to achieve best outcomes for patients.

  5. Ability to develop and build strong relationships with customers.

  9. Requires minimal direction from leadership and possesses the ability to learn quickly.
  10. Demonstrated PC skills, Microsoft applications including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Access.
  11. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  1. The job may require occasional travel between clinic sites.
  2. The job requires rotating after-hour and holiday on-call coverage.
  3. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, talk, or hear; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; and stoop; kneel; or crouch.
  4. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 5 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
