This person needs a complete understanding of cutter/creaser functions and carton stackers. This role serves as the point of contact for all cutter/creaser and related equipment maintenance and repairs.ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIESThe Tool and Die technician is responsible for, but not limited to, the following activities:Day-to-Day operations of all cutter/creaser and knife room functionsCross-train and communicate with other tool and die technicians and maintenance personnelDrive high service level in support of all cutter/creaser, quality and knife room related responsibilitiesInspect cartons for ragged cutting, tear backs and stars that are not cutting cleanCheck score heights to keep as even as possibleCheck bearer settings between male and female scoring cylinders for evennessShim and replace knives as needed on all flexo and offset cutter / creasersAll knives should be shimmed even and only full-sized shims usedBefore mounting a knife, turtle should be thoroughly cleaned and coated with light oilAll knives should be indicated square with the bearersKnife position to be checked with a glass template after working on and/or replacing knivesCork to be used as needed to prevent welts and loose poly from being formedKeep scoring in alignment and parallel with bearersCheck alignment of male and female scoring blocks, replace score blocks as neededCheck blanks for fractures and sharp scores after each die changeRun a template to check the cutting to scoring before releasing for production after a die changeComplete rotary moves as neededSet, adjust and replace delivery wheels as neededSet and adjust the carton stackers as neededUse test paper to check for knives that are not cutting cleanCheck knives with a micrometer before mounting on cutting cylinderReplace scoring rule as neededReplace pickers as neededMonitor knife room stock levels, report and order low knife room assetsEnsure that all knife room parts are organized and stocked correctlyWork with Maintenance Planner to manage stock levels effectivelyEnforce knife room policies and proceduresHousekeeping – sweep, dust, and remove trash from knife room and die storage areaSecure knife room (i.e., no unauthorized personnel allowed inside)Unpack all knife room parts received and put them in their proper locationQualificationsEDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCETypes of experience and/or specialized training:Required:Ability to work with managers, quality techs and hourly coworkers from all departments“Efficiency” minded, well organized and disciplinedAnalytical in identifying opportunities and solutionsAbility to enter data into Maintenance Connect CMMS computer system for work ordersExceptional attention to detailCapable of acquiring a forklift licenseVerbal communication skillsMust be self-motivated and be able to excel with little supervisionMechanical aptitudeAbility to utilize micrometers, calipers and dial indicatorsAbility to run the latheAbility to maintain knife room stock inventory levelsPreferred:Specific knowledge of plant equipment and processesExperience with computerized maintenance management systemsP activ Evergreen is one of the largest manufacturers of fresh food & beverage packaging in North America, with market leading positions across a broad range of products.
