Job Description Summary
The Principal Engineer - Thermal Management Systems is a technical leader and innovator with demonstrated accomplishments in advanced thermal management systems technologies applied to aerospace subsystems and systems, including aircraft systems, avionics, gas turbines, and aerospace power generation. The Principal Engineer will partner with the leadership team and research community to drive technical strategy, build and deliver a portfolio of advanced thermal management and systems programs, and mentor team members while supporting the Aerospace business, government customers, and strategic partners.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities:
Invent and develop thermal management system technologies for future aerospace applications
Establish, maintain, and grow strategic relationships with the GE businesses and external community in areas of need for the organization
Champion the team’s ideas with key stakeholders within GE Aerospace and externally to government agencies and partners
Develop and execute a portfolio of thermal management system programs; meeting deliverables, budgets, and schedules, while also contributing technically to projects
Contribute to an open environment and cross sharing of technology. Collaborate across disciplines and actively contribute to the GE Aerospace technical community
Provide technical guidance and development through effective coaching/mentoring
Represent and promote GE’s research in the global technical community
Drive continuous improvement through standard work, KPIs, and process improvements
Patent your inventions and develop a record of publication via conferences and peer reviewed journals
Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline with a minimum of 20 years of experience in thermal management, fluid-thermal systems, or closely related discipline.
Strong foundational knowledge in one or more relevant technical disciplines: energy systems, fluid mechanics, heat transfer, propulsion, systems engineering, and/or thermodynamics
Proven track record of promoting compliance and safety practices
Demonstrated impact, technical project leadership capability and ability to lead, build and energize cross-functional teams in high-impact technology
Demonstrated ability to influence at senior levels
U.S. Citizenship required
Must be willing to work out of an office located in Niskayuna, NY

Desired Characteristics:
Doctorate in a relevant technical discipline and 15 years of relevant experience
5 years of experience as a principal investigator leading complex projects with multidisciplinary teams
Be a change agent capable of influencing at all organizational levels
Strong ability to work in multi-business environment and develop technology synergy and roadmaps
Established network across the global thermal management and systems technical communities, including participation in relevant professional societies
Strong analytical skills

Due to the nature of the work done at Aviation Research, this role requires the individual to obtain and maintain US Government Security Clearance; prerequisite for a security clearance is U.S. citizenship. GE will require proof of status prior to employment.
The base pay range for this position is $130,000 - $240,000 USD Annually. The specific pay offered may be influenced by a variety of factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, and skill set. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus based on a percentage of your base salary. This posting is expected to close on April 16, 2024.
