Must live within a drivable distance of Denver, CO. May consider per diem for non-local candidates. This is an onsite contract opportunity.


The scope of work for this civil engineering position in Colorado includes overseeing and contributing to large-scale and smaller capital projects. As a project engineer, this person will be responsible for providing civil engineering expertise, with a focus on evaluating project drawings and handling requests for information (RFIs) across multiple projects. Project Overview includes Larger Projects in Pueblo, CO; Two large solar facilities, one of which is starting soon, followed by the next in the Eastern Plains of CO: Three wind facilities that will begin construction shortly. In addition to projects in the Denver Area: Three combustion turbine projects starting in 2026. Lastly, there are smaller capital Projects within the CO region that the engineer will also have opportunities to work on.


Location: Denver, CO

This will be a Hybrid role with flexibility to work from office/home on office work and in the field at the facilities where the construction is taking place which would require travel.


The person will be working on 2-5 different projects split between metro Denver and Pueblo. It is preferred that the person be in the metro Denver area.


A typical day will vary based on the project phase:

  • Early Project Phase: The day will focus on defining the scope of work and developing technical specifications for the project. This may involve collaborating with other engineers and project stakeholders to ensure all requirements are clearly outlined.
  • Procurement Phase: Once materials are procured, the focus will shift to evaluating drawings, studies, and analyses. This will involve reviewing the technical documentation to confirm that everything aligns with the project specifications and requirements.
  • Construction Phase: During construction, the day will be more hands-on, assisting contractors by addressing any questions they may have about the project. This could include clarifying details about the design or construction process and troubleshooting any issues that arise on-site.
  • The overall responsibilities will shift from planning and reviewing to providing direct support during the construction phase.


Responsibilities

  • Will be supporting a multifunctional group that includes various internal business units and external stakeholders.
  • This position will primarily collaborate with facility operations and other internal departments, such as Siting and Land Rights: To coordinate on land-use matters, especially for projects involving land development, such as solar, wind, and turbine installations in addition to Environmental Teams: Due to the nature of moving earth and other environmental impacts, collaboration will be necessary to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Some of the Key Players will be Internal Stakeholders.
  • Facility operations, siting and land rights, environmental teams, and other project engineers and External Entities such as County and State Agencies: Assisting with obtaining local and state permits for large construction projects and Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC): Especially for hydroelectric projects, this position will coordinate with federal agencies to ensure compliance with federal water permits.
  • This role involves a mix of technical collaboration and regulatory coordination with both internal and external teams.


Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in civil engineering with a PE (Professional Engineer) license is required.
  • Utility/power industry experience with renewables or fossil fuel plants.
  • In addition to design experience along with field experience.
  • Required to have a valid driver’s license and dependable transportation.
  • Detail oriented, strong communication skills, strong troubleshooting skills to resolve design issues that may come up as the project progresses.
