Salary Range for this position is $99,252 to $133,536 annually .

Position Summary

The Seattle Colleges Information Technology unit is responsible for the development, acquisition, and support of information technology systems and infrastructure, both instructional and administrative, to support all Seattle College students, faculty and staff. The IT Security Senior position reports to the Chief Information Officer/Associate Vice Chancellor and serves as the lead for district-wide IT Security and related work.

This position includes no direct supervision but may direct or lead the work of others.

The IT Security Senior position is responsible for ensuring that all information and data systems in use within Seattle Colleges meets state and federal regulations as well as best practice standards within the IT industry. This position works with a wide range of staff across the district to ensure rigorous application of information security processes, procedures, operations, principles, and policies are all clearly defined, understood, and adhered to.

This position is FULL time, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, primarily 8am to 5pm (specific hours to be determined with supervisor).

This position can work a hybrid schedule of both remote and on-site work, as determined with supervisor (or can be 100% on-site if desired).

This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement with representation by WFSE.

What you will be working on:

  • Assist in the planning and design of enterprise security architecture.
  • Assist in the creation of enterprise security documents (policies, standards, baselines, guidelines and procedures), including Contingency plans and disaster recovery procedures.
  • Take the lead with other IT staff, ensure compliance with SBCTC and Washington state CIO and CISO guidelines, State laws (Washington - 43.105.XXX, ORS 1552), Federal laws (GLBA, FERPA, HIPAA) and industry PCI-DSS requirements.
  • Take the lead with other IT staff to support Business Continuity Planning preparedness as well as Disaster Recovery.
  • In collaboration with other IT staff, ensure provision of table top security exercises for all relevant district and college unit leadership on an annual basis.
  • Assist in the creation and delivery of college-wide educational sessions pertaining to Information Security best practices.
  • Maintain up-to-date detailed knowledge of the IT security industry including awareness of new or revised security solutions, improved security processes and the development of new attacks and threat vectors.
  • Recommend additional security solutions or enhancements to existing security solutions to improve overall enterprise security.
  • Act as lead operational responder to individual cybersecurity concerns.
  • Create and update standards using all relevant regulations and guidelines from state and federal regulations.
  • Assess college systems and procedures against created standards.
  • Create gap assessments based upon audit findings.
  • Collaborate with other IT staff to ensure up-to-date baselines for the secure configuration and operations of all in-place devices, ex. workstations, servers, network devices, etc. and related security tools.
  • Audit operational configurations of all in-place security solutions as per the established baselines.
  • In collaboration with other IT staff, review logs and reports and interpret the implications of that activity and devise plans for appropriate resolution.
  • Participate in investigations, in the design and execution of vulnerability assessments, penetration tests and security audits.
  • Provide on-call support for end users for all in-place security solutions.
  • Provide Guidance to other SBCTC Schools as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and support the ITSEC committee within the Information Technology Commission (executive members) under authority of the Washington Association of Community and Technical Colleges.
  • Perform related duties as required.

What you bring as a candidate: Required Education, Experience, and Certifications

  • CISSP
  • Demonstrated experience in higher education
  • 3-5 years of experience in security and risk compliance support in a complex organization
  • Strong knowledge of security frameworks and standards (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001).
  • Experience with security tools and technologies (e.g., SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls).
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
