The examination processing fee may be paid either by sending a check or money order payable to the Director of Finance (please write the examination number and title on your check/money order), paying in-person with a valid credit card, or payment by phone (must have application in office). EXAMINATION PROCESSING FEE WAIVER: A waiver of examination processing fee will be allowed if you are unemployed and primarily responsible for the support of a household. In addition, a waiver of examination processing fee will be allowed if you are determined eligible. VACANCIES: At present two (2) vacancies exist in the Erie 2-Chautauqua-Cattaraugus BOCES. Results from promotional examination #01398 also being held for this title will be used first for appointments. DUTIES: A Network Technician performs the primary responsibility of maintaining an agency's servers and LAN/WAN configurations. This position performs maintenance, installation and support functions for assigned areas of responsibility but is not the agency's chief network administrator. This position is supervised by a director/network administrator of higher rank and is utilized in agencies that require a non-administrative level of network technician. A Network Technician may assign work and inspect completed tasks of lower-level technology support staff. Does related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and either: A. Graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college, university or technical school with an Associates degree in computer science, computer information systems or a closely related computer field and two (2) years of full-time paid experience in network administration or information systems management; OR B. Successful completion of 60 semester credit hours from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college, university or technical school which must have included eighteen (18) semester credit hours in management information systems, computer science, information technology or a closely related computer field and two (2) years of full-time paid experience in network administration; OR C. Successful completion of a certification program in hardware repair, networking or a computer-related field from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or technical school and three (3) years of full-time paid experience in network administration. Special Requirement for Appointment in School Districts and BOCES: Per Chapter 180 of the Laws of 2000, and by Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, to be employed in a position designated by a school district or BOCES as involving direct contact with students, a clearance for employment from the State Education Department is required.
