EMPLOYMENT STATUS:

POSITION SUMMARY :
Responsible for providing students and staff with medical assistance in the clinic. Administer and monitor accurate records of the administration of all student medications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Administer first aid as needed to ill and injured students, with follow-up parent notification.
- Follow a consistent and accurate system for administration of medications per Ohio Revised Code (ORC).
- Maintain accurate daily records of student medication use.
- Record clinic visits in a log.
- Keep clinic stocked with supplies.
- Screen students suspected of having contagious diseases.
- Assist with medical needs of disabled students in accordance with IEP and self-care needs.
- Assist with district hearing and vision screenings.
- Works closely with school secretary.
- Notify necessary staff of Health Alerts and Emergency Health Plans.
- Provide assistance in general office tasks when available.
- Use sound judgment, tact and diplomacy when interacting with students, parents and the community, and maintain the confidentiality of information that is not public domain.
- Serve as a role model in the practice of ethical principles, responsible behavior and democratic values.
- Attending training sessions as required or assigned.
- Observe all safety and health regulations of the school district.
- Maintain an appropriate personal appearance.
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Building Principal.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical aide or EMT training preferred.
- Experience working with children.
- Alternative to the above qualifications as the Superintendent and/or Board of Education may find appropriate.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to work with people in a positive and confidential manner.
- Demonstrated organizational skills.
- Willingness to complete first aid and CPR training.
- Ability to work cooperatively with school staff.
- Ability to work effectively with non-compliant families.
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills.
EQUIPMENT OPERATED:
- Vision screener.
- Audiometer.
- Medical supplies and equipment.
- Various office machines.
- Computer/printer.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Frequent exposure to blood, bodily fluids and tissue, communicable diseases and disorders, including lice.
- Occasional interaction with unruly children or distraught children or adults.
- Occasional operation of a vehicle in inclement weather.
- Some travel between school buildings and occasional travel to workshops.
- Some evening and summer work.
- Regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, see, hear, read, reach with hands and arms.
- Requirement to lift, push, pull and carry various supplies and equipment, up to maximum of 25 lbs.

- Salary: Based on current classified salary schedule with appropriate experience and training
