Job Title: Animal Scientist - Farrowing
Job Location: 83140 564th Ave Stanton, NE 68779 (Stanton)
JOB DUTIES: Responsible for ensuring preparation of pre-farrow rooms, and training and supervising staff to meet standards. Specific duties include: (1) supervising, training, and executing proper inducing and farrowing of sows; (2) executing the proper transferring and sizing of piglets; (3) executing proper split suckling of litters; (4) performing procedures to identify piglets that require a nurse sow or litter swap; (5) ensuring proper treatment and regular vaccinations of sows and piglets; (6) performing proper processing and castration of piglets; (7) managing flow of ideal pigs weaned to nursery; (8) maintaining goals for prewean and stillborn, as established by Unit Manager; (9) supervising, training, and executing to ensure proper feeding of lactating sows; and (10) advocating and engaging in Schwartz Farms’ animal welfare policy, including promoting animal well-being, remedying circumstances which impede animal care, and properly reporting instances of mistreatment or abuse.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Medicine, Agricultural Engineering, or related; one year of swine production experience.
