Job Description*IMPORTANT NOTE: Only those currently serving as a permanent Electrician and has filed, and passed, exam no. 4558, promotion to Supervisor of Electrician, will be considered. You will be asked to provide your proposed score received at the end of the exam.The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system’s 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the City.The Bureau of Wastewater Treatment (BWT) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of all facilities related to the treatment of sewage within the five boroughs of the City. This includes 14 wastewater treatment plants, sludge dewatering facilities, collections facilities (pumping stations, combined sewer overflow retention facilities, regulators, tide gates, etc.), wastewater laboratories and harbor vessels.Under general supervision, the Supervisor Electrician will supervise Electricians, Electrician's Helpers and other assigned personnel during the installation, repair, replacement and maintenance of apparatus, equipment and electrical wiring circuits for buildings and other structures according to the provisions of applicable New York City codes and regulations.Job Tasks/Duties:1.Preparing work schedules, work requests, work orders and work assignments using the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).2.Conducting field inspections of electrical installations and components of electrical systems relative to work progress and determining if there is a need for alterations, maintenance and repairs thereto.3.Overseeing the maintenance of critical equipment and ensuring that equipment reliability is maximized.4.Supervising the operation of the electrical shop.5.Consulting with staff personnel, contractors, inspectors and manufacturers' representatives in connection with department electrical work.6.Responding to emergency work, keeping accurate records and preparing reports.7.Promoting a workplace that adheres to EH&S policies, procedures and regulations.8.Prepares job orders and tool and material requisitions.9.Operates a motor vehicle or related transport equipment to access work sites in the performance of assigned duties.QualificationsSix years of full-time satisfactory experience as an electrician acquired within the last fifteen years, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory capacity; orAt least four years of experience as described in "1" above, plus sufficient satisfactory experience as an electrician's helper or apprentice electrician or training in the electrical field acquired in an approved trade, technical or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of such helper experience, apprentice training or training in the electrical field.
