Position Purpose: The Paint Lead is a skilled and quality-focused professional responsible for overseeing and performing light body work and painting functions in the work truck and utility equipment field. This leadership role requires exceptional technical expertise, strong management skills, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards. The Paint Lead ensures timely completion of projects, manages team performance, and maintains safety and environmental standards within the paint department.
Essential Job Functions:
  • Lead and supervise the paint team, assigning tasks and ensuring efficient workflow
  • Safely and efficiently operate all equipment including grinders, sanders, and spray equipment
  • Perform and oversee final inspections to ensure completion and adherence to customer specifications
  • Manage inventory, order, and organize paint and supplies following industry safety standards
  • Oversee and perform surface preparation including pressure washing, cleaning, grinding, sandblasting, and degreasing
  • Conduct and supervise light body work including dent removal and application/finish of body filler
  • Ensure proper masking and taping in preparation for paint application
  • Mix paint to match existing colors or according to customer specifications
  • Apply and oversee paint application based on UES requirements while meeting quality standards
  • Supervise the application of all appropriate decals and post-paint accessories
  • Monitor work to ensure consistent quality standards across all projects
  • Collaborate with management in scheduling work and ensuring production goals are met
  • Maintain cleanliness of all work areas and ensure proper maintenance of equipment
  • Enforce all safety and environmental standards, including the proper use and care of all PPE
  • Train and mentor team members on painting techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards
  • Handle customer communications regarding paint-related inquiries and issues
Supervisory Responsibilities: 1 paint technician
Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Knowledge:
  • Expert knowledge of paint mixing, color matching, and application techniques
  • Extensive experience in paint application, body work, and medium/heavy duty equipment repair, a plus
  • Thorough understanding of body repair techniques and processes
  • Familiarity with safety regulations and environmental standards in paint and body work
  • Understanding of work truck and utility equipment specifications and requirements
  • Proficiency in using computerized paint mixing systems and inventory management software
Skills:
  • Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills
  • Proven leadership experience in a paint shop or similar environment
Abilities:
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, technical manuals, and customer specifications
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and on a team
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Physical Requirements:
  • The ability to wear the appropriate PPE for the job task performed. (All technicians are required to wear safety toed shoes and safety glasses. Painters/ welders are required to wear either PAPRs or full-face respirators and must complete an OSHA medical evaluation/ spirometry test annually.)
  • The ability to walk, stand, bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch while also utilizing tools
  • The ability to climb ladders, scaffolds, or work platforms
  • May lift up to 25-50lbs and/or move up to 50lbs with assistive devices
  • Must be able to work in extreme weather
  • Must be able to operate in noisy environments (≥85 Db)
