How will you make a difference?
As a member of the Precision Turbo & Engine Machine Shop group/division, you will be responsible for carrying out the production schedule, leading the day-to-day production activities of the machine shop, achieving results in terms of high-quality products being delivered on time to customers. This position will direct and supervise hourly production employees, oversee the effective use of materials, equipment, and assets in accordance with company core values, objectives, and goals.
What do we want to know about you?
- College or technical degree required.
- 3-5 years recent supervisory level experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably with machining or assembly of industrial or transportation products in a high mix-low volume build-to-order environment.
- Must have sufficient proven technical knowledge of all equipment, processes and products related to the machine shop.
- The ability to receive and execute instructions.
- Experience implementing lean manufacturing principles and concepts.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- This position requires a team player who can work with all levels of management and interact in a positive manner.
- Demonstrates effective problem solving and sense of urgency matters which may require working longer hours on short notice.
- Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills required to include the ability to provide written and verbal instructions, compile, and present business reports/correspondence, and present information clearly.
- Interpersonal and supervisory skills, such as emotional competency, coaching, providing feedback, and evaluating performance of subordinates, and the ability to coach and lead employees.

What will your typical day look like?
- Leadership responsibilities will include assigning work to machine shop employees, providing effective communications, coaching, training, performance evaluation, attendance tracking and any discipline matters.
- Responsible for Time and Attendance of Machine Shop Employees
- Implement programs and activities that provide a work environment that promotes safety, a culture of compliance, effective goal accomplishment, productivity, and morale.
- Ensures products are produced in accordance with all manufacturing and quality specifications.
- Prepare and maintain ISO9000 procedures and work instructions for work areas within the machine shop, as well as assisting with budget planning and making capital expenditure recommendations.
- Review production reports, activity reports, or other performance data to measure productivity or to identify areas needing quality, cycle time, cost reduction or process improvement.
- Optimize department performance with the appropriate utilization of manpower, equipment and resources that meet overall business plan and objectives.
- Work with customer service to ensure on time delivery of products to customers.
- Serve on safety committee and perform regular departmental safety walks to find opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct departmental meetings/huddles.
- Drive continuous improvement and cost reductions activities on a daily basis with formal lean tools and methods.
What about the physical demands of the job?
- You will be required to stand, walk, and sit frequently
- Handling cast iron, aluminum and stainless steel parts up to 15lbs frequently and occasionally heavier parts all the way up to 50lbs.
- Safety approved steel toes and safety glasses to be worn at all times.
- Face shields, gloves and other PPE will be required occasionally with specific job tasks.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
