STATEMENT OF THE JOB
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Crisis Mobil Team Specialist performs a variety of support functions for the police department which include but are not limited:
  • De-escalate: Provide relief to consumers experiencing a behavioral health crisis in any location within GSA BHC.
  • Reduce stigma: Support consumers and their families to reduce stigma surrounding mental health.
  • Provide information: Provide information, referrals, and other kinds of alternative support.
  • Connection to Community providers: Connect consumers to community-based providers who can provide intense outpatient or inpatient services.
  • Respond to LE scene and take command allowing Officers and EMS to return to duty as soon as possible.
  • Identify rapid arrest or high utilizers of 911/dispatch center for non -LE or EMS with mental health concerns.
  • Redirecting consumers away from the justice system and into the behavioral health system.
  • Provide follow up services for high acute SMI (severely mentally ill) and COT (Court Ordered Treatment) members ensuring they remain connected to community behavioral health organizations and directed away from the Justice and EMS systems.
  • Respond to all requests by LE/EMS to assess, triage and resource as needed.
  • Provide post-crisis follow up with individuals and families.
  • Provide mental health evaluations and assessment of individuals and families as needed.
  • Provide Continuum of Care: Integrated system of care that guides and tracks a consumer over time through a comprehensive array of health services appropriate to the individual's need. A continuum of care may include prevention, early intervention, continuing resource identification and on-going support.

Work is performed under the supervision of the BACCUP TEAM Manager as well as the on-duty Patrol Lieutenant and patrol supervisors. Incumbents often work without direct supervision and are expected to exercise independent initiative and mature judgment.
NOTE: The employee will be required to work flexible shifts that include evenings, weekends and holidays.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE/LICENSING & TRAINING
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma or GED, and experience in behavioral or social services; or any combination of
training, education and experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the
position. All Police Department employment is contingent upon the successful completion of the
following: oral interview, drug screen and polygraph.
LICENSING & TRAINING:
Valid State Driver's License
National Incident Management Systems (NIMS) training based on assignment.
*Continued employment is contingent upon all required licenses and certificates being maintained in
active status without suspension or revocation.

  • Communicates verbally with the general public, other City employees, Court officials, and other agency personnel in order to assist the person, persons in crisis and get them the needed resources in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

  • Transports the general public to and from needed resource, providing other needed resources to the best of their ability.
  • Observes and monitors the status and behavior of the person in crisis in order to comply with prescribed operating and safety standards.
  • Uses specialized, non-routine, protective equipment when exposed to hazardous agents and chemicals.
  • Assists officers in handling uncooperative and argumentative citizens or prisoners. Provides first aid and determines when emergent medical attention is required.
  • Assists with customers at the Department's counter when necessary.
  • Works with local schools regarding any crisis item within the scope of practice.
  • Maintains a professional awareness of regulations regarding child welfare and a working knowledge of State Law, City Code, School Board policy and administrative regulations.
  • Prepares and writes reports and miscellaneous correspondence and maintains a record keeping system regarding calls that the employee responds to and the outcomes.
  • Responds to incoming, non-emergency calls for police services and community information and general assistance as well as for possible response to the calls.
  • Maintains reference materials and keeps informed of basic laws, codes, ordinances, department regulations, policies, procedures, organizational structures and functions.
  • Follows up on citizen's calls for service, gathers and enters computer information; researches information as needed.
  • Provides exceptional customer service to internal and external customers.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • City and Police practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of computer word processing (Microsoft Word, Excel spreadsheets), and database software programs, • English, spelling and grammar.

SKILL IN:
  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with Police Services staff, City employees, City officials, and the general public • Maintaining confidential and sensitive information.
  • Carrying out assigned projects to their completion.
  • Entering data or information into a computer terminal, PC or other keyboard device.
  • Following verbal direction.

ABILITY TO:
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing;
  • Read and understand departmental and City policies, instructions, laws, and regulations.
  • Operate a computer terminal in order to assist those in crisis, learn first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation procedures
  • Deal effectively with a wide variety of individuals in stressful situations, and when required to, use sufficient physical force when needed for the safety of all parties.
  • Remember details and quickly carryout procedural steps.
  • Deal tactfully and courteously with the public.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, and personnel from other agencies.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

duties of this job, the employee works indoors, in a vehicle and outdoors. The employee will be required
to work outdoors in weather conditions, which may include extreme heat. The employee may be exposed
to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
