The Senior Associate Director of Development for the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing (JHSON) is an integral member of a highly successful development and alumni relations (DAR) team at the top-ranked school of nursing. This position is vital to the success of the JHSON development team and will focus on philanthropy for the newly formed Institute for Policy Solutions (IPS) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing. Reporting to the Director of Development, this position will secure major gifts primarily for the benefit of the Institute for Policy Solutions (IPS) at the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing.
Key responsibilities:
- Partner directly with the Institute for Policy Solutions Executive Director and other institutional leadership to identify and create strategies for outreach, approach, solicitation, and stewardship for donors and prospects.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the research, programs, and priorities of the Institute for Policy Solutions to represent these needs both internally and externally.
- Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 major giving ($100,000+) prospects, including planned giving prospects; this work includes moving them along the prospect readiness continuum as appropriate, whether via discovery, cultivation, solicitation, or stewardship visits. This role has a goal of completing at least 75 visits and 100 substantive actions annually.
- Identify new prospects and evaluate potential donors with a focus on achieving JHU and SON annual goals.
- Utilize Salesforce (internally known as JHAS) to analyze data, run reports, document efforts, and track progress to individual and team metrics.
- Prepare case statements, major proposals, solicitation letters, and other cultivation and informational materials for prospects and donors.
- Collaborate with SON DAR team leadership and DAR partners to identify prospects and new markets.
- Lead strategy on developing a new category of donors.
- Assist with planning and staffing SON DAR events, as needed.
- Represent the Institute for Policy Solutions and SON DAR on internal committees and relationships, as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree.
- Five years professional related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated ability to secure major gifts at the 6- and 7-figure levels.
- Demonstrated experience in managing and staffing senior institutional leadership, including ability to proactively develop and implement sophisticated prospect strategy, preparation, and follow up for dean-level visits.
- Strong strategic and creative thinking; entrepreneurial skills in identifying and developing new markets.
- Strong analytical and data driven mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
- High degree of comfort with fast-paced environment and change.
- Ability to produce within time constraints with the highest degree of accuracy, effectiveness, and diplomacy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain a high degree of discretion and tact.
- Strong computer literacy skills and the aptitude to learn new software.
- Willingness to travel and to work occasional evening or weekend hours as needed.
