    Housing Manager at 2024 Democratic National Convention Committee 

    OVERVIEW

    From August 19-22, 2024, Democrats from all over the country will gather together in the City of Chicago to participate in the Democratic National Convention, where we will nominate President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for re-election. The Democratic National Convention Committee (DNCC) is assembling a diverse team with skills in community engagement, event logistics, finance, operations, IT, and more. The DNCC team will oversee and deliver on all aspects of the planning and execution of this Convention, from housing the delegates to convening Platform Committee meetings to producing the Convention’s live programming, which will be seen by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

    SUMMARY

    The Housing department is responsible for procuring hotel rooms and meeting space for thousands of Convention attendees, including allied and labor groups, finance organizations, party leaders, media outlets, security personnel, the White House and other invited guests attending the 2024 Democratic National Convention in Chicago. Through strategic coordination with a housing agency services provider (HASP), the Chicago hotel community, and DNCC departments, the Housing Manager will implement and manage the housing plan for these groups.

    REPORTING STRUCTURE

    • The Housing Manager reports to the Director of Housing.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Implement and manage the DNCC housing plan for our constituents to achieve the logistical and operational objectives of the Convention. 
    • Manage the hotel room blocks and hotel meeting space for assigned constituents.
    • Work directly with each hotel’s services team in executing the customized plans for each guestroom block and affiliated function space.
    • Act as liaison between the customer, the hotel point of contact, and HASP in ensuring all needs are being addressed and met.
    • Report and make recommendations to the Director of Housing regarding housing plan’s progress, obstacles, solutions, and resources. 
    • Work collaboratively with department staff, the DNCC housing provider, the Senior Advisor of Housing, other DNCC departments, and the Chicago hotel community to facilitate successful housing operations.
    • Contribute to the department’s monthly newsletter to the hotel community.
    • Recruit, train, schedule, and manage housing volunteers with the DNCC volunteer team.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • Professional experience in project, event, and/or database management with various moving pieces.
    • Exemplary problem-solving, presentation, and communication skills.
    • Detail-oriented and organized self-starter with effective problem-solving skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to use independent judgment required to plan, prioritize, and implement the complex workload.
    • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong interpersonal skills, sense of humor, and desire to collaborate with team members in providing excellent customer service internally and externally.
    • Commitment to providing excellent, white-glove customer service at all times.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Workspace applications, and willingness to learn additional software platforms as needed.
    • Knowledge of the Democratic Party structure is helpful.
    • Experience in event housing management or working with the hotel industry is a plus.
    • Willingness to be a proactive team member to help accomplish the goals of the Convention.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS 

    The DNCC will mainly operate out of the Headquarters Office, but will also maintain a number of satellite offices and additional venues. All of these spaces are professional office environments, and will require the operation of office equipment such as computers, phones, and copy machines. This position mainly uses an assigned workstation but may require movement or maintaining a stationary position for short or long periods of time. Employees may be asked to do tasks requiring dexterity or lifting items weighing up to 10 lbs. All employees may request reasonable accommodation to perform their job tasks.

    ANTICIPATED START DATE: March 19, 2024

    LOCATION: Chicago, IL

    TRAVEL: This job will require travel within the City of Chicago among participating Convention hotels.

    FLSA ELIGIBILITY: This is an exempt position under the FLSA.

    SALARY & BENEFITS: The anticipated starting salary for this position is $75K. The DNCC offers a benefits package that includes medical, dental, and vision insurance.
