Suffolk University invites qualified candidates to apply for our Associate Director of Student Leadership & Involvement opening. The Associate Director helps create a vibrant community for student engagement by providing advising support, training, and resources for student organizations, newly registered student groups, and faculty/staff advisors. They will serve as an integral member of the Student Leadership and Involvement staff and support departmental initiatives. This individual will be the University’s point person for student veterans and provide support for both individual students and the veteran’s organization.
PRIMARY/PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- ADVISING & STUDENT ORGANIZATION SUPPORT: Serves as staff advisor and provides leadership training and team development for the Program Council (Campus Activities Program Board). Mentors and supports executive and general board members. Serves as the program advisor for registered student organizations. Attends events and programs on a regular basis and chaperones night and weekend events as needed. Coordinates club registration process for continuing and new clubs and organizations by maintaining a current database and ensuring compliance with state and University guidelines for registered clubs and organizations. Advises and coordinates with faculty members the various student media groups including The Suffolk Journal, Suffolk Voice, Suffolk Free Radio, WSUB Productions (Film Club), Venture Literary Magazine, and Beacon Yearbook. Coordinates media selection and serves as program advisor in areas of budget management, policy review, and operating procedures. Manages the SUconnect student organization portal and develops training for student organizations and departments utilizing SUconnect and SLI social media efforts. Develops, implements, and evaluates leadership development efforts needed by student organizations. Develops and evaluates resources for faculty and staff advisors of registered clubs and organizations to include, but not limited to recognition programs, manuals, receptions, and workshops. Serves as a general resource person/consultant for individuals and organizations requiring information on program planning, organization recruitment and retention, conflict resolution, and other organizational issues.
- PROGRAMMING: Leads the coordination and development of themed programs such as involvement fairs, unity week, senior week, and Ramily Reunion. Assists with the development of programs and resources for commuter students. Assists in the coordination of major events and departmental programming.
- ASSESSMENT: Participates in assessing the effectiveness of co-curricular and department goals and objectives.
- PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Participates in professional development opportunities/programs and in professional organization programs.
- OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATION:
- Master’s degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education Administration or related field is required.
- 5-7 years of progressive experience in a student activities or related student affairs setting is preferred.
- Demonstrated leadership, organization, management, and platform skills; an ability to oversee a wide variety of activities; attention to detail and ability to work independently.
- Solid experience in program development, implementation, and assessment.
- Commitment to a diverse and multicultural program in department programs.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong professional and ethical standards on which to serve as a role model to a diverse student constituency. Ability to build working relationships with students, faculty, and staff.
- Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast-paced environment, including working nights and weekends as necessary.
