Job Summary

The Director of Alumni Relations and Development serves as the chief development officer for the Laboratory Schools. Reporting to the Director of Schools, the Director is responsible for generating annual and endowed philanthropic revenue, alumni engagement, and relations among Lab parents and community members.

The Director will design and execute a comprehensive fundraising plan, manage a portfolio of major gifts prospects, and lead a staff of seven, expanding to ten. The Director will also work closely with the University of Chicago’s Alumni Relations and Development Office.

Responsibilities

  • Advises and partners with the Director on fundraising strategies and community engagement.
  • Leads quarterly meetings of the Lab Board’s Alumni & Family Relations and Development Committee.
  • Identifies, researches, cultivates, and solicits a personal portfolio of current and prospective donors.
  • Supervises, mentors, and supports the goals of each member of the ARD team.
  • Oversees planning and implementation of events that promote connection to Lab.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in a related field.

Work Experience: Minimum requirements include 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate or professional degree in business, marketing, management, or relevant field.
  • Minimum of eight years in progressively responsible leadership positions in institutional development.
  • Successful track record soliciting and closing major gifts.
  • Experience in a primary or secondary independent school setting strongly preferred.
