Department Summary:

Join our team as a CNC Machinist specializing in Hardware Fabrication at our facility lab. We provide innovative solutions for electronic prototypes designed for advanced sensing, communication, and navigation systems. Our focus includes ground, airborne, and shipboard systems. We offer a high-quality, cost-effective solution for the greater MITRE community to rapidly field and demonstrate technologies, and to solve mechanical design challenges. We partner with projects to prioritize needs and schedules, providing a range of services from low-cost, quick engineering changes to full-scale design and fabrication. Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate and produce quality parts in collaboration with the shop supervisor, engineers, and other shop staff
  • Read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and verbal or sketch instructions to fabricate prototype and short-run production of parts
  • Manufacture parts from prints and CAD models, maintaining tolerances within +/- 0.001 when necessary
  • Work with a variety of materials including metals, plastics, composites, and wood
  • Support fielding of systems and associated travel, as needed, to include kitting, set-up, operation, test, and tear-down
  • Contribute to additional shop maintenance and operations as required, including maintaining equipment and following safety guidelines

Basic Qualifications:

  • 1 - 2 years of related experience with a High School Diploma or equivalent education
  • Experience with CNC milling machines, lathes, manual milling machines, manual lathes, and machinist hand tools
  • Knowledge of trigonometry and proficiency with Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) software
  • Eligibility for access to classified information or the ability to obtain security clearances
  • On-site requirement of 5 days a week

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with wire electrical discharge machining (EDM) systems, 4- and 5-axis milling machines, and welding aluminum and steel
  • Proficiency with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), ANSI and ASME drafting standards, and 3D & 2D CAD software
  • Experience in a research & development (R&D) or prototype machine shop setting
  • Knowledge of Solidworks PDM or similar data/configuration management software

Clearance Requirement: Secret clearance required
