STV currently has an opening for a Vehicles Engineering Specialist to join our Vehicles/Safety Engineering group in ourBoston, MAoffice. This is an opportunity to work on a variety of mechanical and electrical systems projects. You will assist in providing technical advice and support concerning design, overhaul and/or maintenance issues for vehicles. Exposure to electrical/mechanical systems and control systems of any type of passenger/commercial vehicle, marine or aerospace systems would be a plus.
Responsibilities:
Assist with design reviews or problem solving on rail vehicle subsystems.
Provide support for the inspection and field testing of rail rolling stock, at client locations Nationally and Internationally.
Information take-offs from engineering drawings, and drawing interpretation.
Preparing technical studies and small AutoCAD projects.
Spreadsheet and database (MS Excel and Access) development and test data analysis.
Preparation project and design review meeting reports; possibly at client locations.
Assist with systems specification development changes and revisions for clients.
Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
Qualifications:
Candidates must hold ABET accredited four-year bachelor's degrees in electrical or mechanical engineering.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
FE/EIT or PE preferred, yet not required.
Willing to undertake a very wide variety of tasks and activities, demonstrate flexibility and a desire for a wide range of engineering experiences.
Travel requirements can be up to 25% time for intermittent short periods, with most of the travel being same day trips to our client sites. Opportunities for re-location.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of the STV and client organizations.
Candidates should possess the ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Capable of solving practical problems and dealing with a variety of variables in situations where only limited information exists.
Compensation Range:
